Position: Senior Backend Developer (Must: .Net, Node & AWS)
Reports to: Engineering Manager / Engineering Team Lead
Position Summary We are looking for skilled Mid-Senior Software Engineers to join our Engineering team supporting various Integration initiatives like Digital Payments (Node.js/AWS serverless stack), Data Integration (a .NET 8 / SQL Server backend service) and Building APIs. You will work across all three codebases — this is not a single-stack role — moving between a .NET console application backed by SQL Server and event- riven AWS Lambda microservices provisioned via Terraform, depending on sprint priorities. You will take ownership of engineering quality, architecture, and delivery across these systems, collaborating closely with SDETs and Product to ensure reliable, well-tested releases.
Essential Functions
- Design, build, and maintain features across our learning platform (LMS) and our payments/API systems.
- Build and connect APIs that let our systems talk to each other securely, keeping employee-facing and public-facing access clearly separated.
- Use AI coding tools like Claude or GitHub Copilot to speed up development — generating starter code, writing and reviewing tests, drafting documentation, and testing out ideas quickly.
- Write clean, well-tested code and hold a high bar through code reviews and clear documentation.
- Make sure the application runs fast, feels responsive, and works reliably even with a spotty connection.
- Find, troubleshoot, and fix bugs and issues, including problems that come up in production.
- Take part in team planning meetings and retrospectives as part of our Agile process.
- Set up and maintain the cloud infrastructure our applications run on and keep it consistent across all our testing and production environments.
- Take part in code reviews and help enforce our quality and coding standards.
- Work closely with our QA/testing team to make sure new features are well tested before release.
- Participate in an on-call rotation, providing production support and incident response outside standard business hours as needed.
- Plan and execute product deployments that occur outside standard business hours, coordinating with the team to minimize disruption to the business.
Skills and Abilities Required
Must-Haves:
- Proficiency in C# (.NET 8) and T-SQL / SQL Server.
- Proficiency in JavaScript/Node.js and building serverless applications on AWS (Lambda, API Gateway, SQS, EventBridge etc.).
- Experience with RDS/PostgreSQL or similar relational databases.
- Hands-on experience with Terraform for infrastructure as code.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines (Azure Pipelines or equivalent).
- Experience building and consuming REST APIs.
- Understanding of event-driven and microservices architecture.
Nice-to-Haves:
- Experience with SCIM 2.0 or identity/access management systems.
- Experience with Dynatrace or similar APM/observability tooling.
- Experience with DACPAC-based SQL Server deployment workflows.
- AWS certification (e.g., Solutions Architect Associate).
- Experience in payments, fintech, or restaurant/retail technology domains.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Experience
- 4–8 years of professional software engineering experience.
- Experience delivering production software across multiple, architecturally distinct systems preferred.
- Experience working in Agile or team-based development environments preferred.
