Human Resources Advisor
Elland, West Yorkshire (Hybrid working - one/two days in the office)
Full-time, Monday to Friday – 37.5 hours per week

At Marshalls, we believe building tomorrow's world starts with what we can create together today. Since the 1890s, we've grown from a Yorkshire stone business into a leading UK manufacturer of building, roofing and landscaping solutions. Every day, our colleagues help shape the homes, schools, hospitals, streets and infrastructure that communities across the UK rely on. We're proud of our heritage, excited by what's next and committed to creating opportunities for our colleagues to grow, develop and make a real difference. Together, we're shaping the future of our business, our industry and the places people rely on every day.

We’ve always believed that great HR isn't always about policies or processes; it’s about understanding people, building trust, and being a reliable support system for our teams. We’re now looking for an experienced HR Advisor to join our People Services team in a hands-on, busy role supporting colleagues and leaders across our manufacturing sites and office functions. If you are looking for a position where you can make a real difference and see your ideas come to life, we want to hear from you.

So, what’s the opportunity?
You’ll provide expert advice and guidance in line with our HR practices and procedures. This means managing employee relations cases, such as performance and absence management, disciplinary and grievance, and appropriately challenging and investigating cases when needed. We're a busy team, so you need to be prepared to hit the ground running. You’ll have dedicated support from our Head of People Services and our HR Business Partners, who partner with our leaders. This role reports to the Head of People Services.

You’ll be the go-to support for our managers, coaching them on best practice, interpreting UK employment law, and managing casework from start to finish. This covers everything from taking notes in formal meetings and leading investigations to supporting our drug and alcohol policy processes. You’ll also deliver HR introduction training to new managers, support occupational health referrals, and ensure we maintain strong, credible relationships with our union and site representatives.

While you'll manage your own caseload, you’ll also work closely with the wider HR team on company and HR objectives. You’ll collaborate on data and insights by keeping our case logs updated and monitoring absence triggers. When it comes to change management, complex employee relations, or policy overhauls, you will provide valuable support and first-hand experiences to our HR Business Partners and the Head of People Services.

This is a hybrid role with one to two days per week based in our Elland office. Flexibility will be required when travelling to our manufacturing sites across the UK to support our colleagues in person.

What you’ll bring to the role:

  • Proven experience managing a varied and demanding employee relations caseload within a fast-paced environment
  • A strong working knowledge of UK employment law and its practical application
  • Experience providing expert advice and guidance to managers on policy interpretation and case management from start to finish
  • Experience in supporting managers through organisational change initiatives
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to coach, influence, and appropriately challenge stakeholders
  • Accountability for your own workload, with the ability to manage priorities independently while knowing when to escalate complex or high-risk matters
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach, with the initiative to identify process improvements and resolve issues effectively
  • Experience delivering HR training sessions or workshops
  • Strong organisational skills, with experience in maintaining accurate case logs, tracking absence data, and prioritising project work
  • Commitment to your own professional development, actively seeking opportunities to build capability and knowledge
  • Experience working within a unionised environment is highly advantageous
  • A CIPD Level 5 qualification is preferred, or equivalent experience
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach, with the initiative to identify process improvements and resolve issues effectively
