Role Overview

Hillel at Baruch College, Inc - the umbrella Hillel overseeing nine campus Hillels in Manhattan, New York City - is looking for a passionate and creative professional to serve as the Director of Campus & External Affairs and Campus Impact Advisor. This role will focus on relationship-building and stewardship of key external partners and supporting antisemitism response and prevention on campus, while working alongside a cohort of other Campus Impact professionals doing this important work on campuses across North America. Working closely with Hillel International, campus Hillel staff and students, community stakeholders, and university partners, the Director of Campus & External Affairs will build and sustain long-term relationships, and advocacy and media strategies to shift the climate on campus. The ideal candidate will deeply understand today’s campus climate and have a passion for engaging student and campus communities in shaping and advancing advocacy. They will leverage their relationship-building expertise to work across campus and the local Jewish community to ensure Hillels and the students they serve feel supported, connected to resources, and able to navigate even the most complex of antisemitic incidents on campus today.

The Director of Campus & External Affairs will report directly to Hillel at Baruch College’s Executive Director and will receive training, support, and guidance through the Campus Impact Advisor program from the Associate Vice President Campus Antisemitism Solutions at Hillel International.  As part of a cohort of other Campus Impact Advisors, this role will join a cadre of professionals working together in the fight against antisemitism on college campuses across North America.

What You’ll Do

• Build meaningful relationships with key university staff and faculty that yield productive partnerships.
• Convene faculty, staff, and students around issues of antisemitism and anti-Zionism who can make recommendations to administration and build support networks.
• Partner internally with antisemitism-focused teams within Hillel International such as Campus Climate Initiative, Israel Action and Addressing Antisemitism and Communications teams.
• Collaborate and manage Jewish and non-Jewish community organizations on community-wide initiatives.
• Connect with students who are interested in advocacy and empower them as leaders; plan advocacy events in support of Jewish students on campus.
• Regularly monitor, track, and report on antisemitism both on social media and throughout campus.
• Work with Jewish and non-Jewish student leaders on campus to address the campus climate and ensure inclusion of all students. This also entails training and supporting civically minded students on getting involved in student leadership with Greek life, student government, or key campus organizations.
• Support appropriate community involvement on campus that is relevant and beneficial to the lived experience of Jewish students and faculty through building meaningful relationships with other community groups and individuals with shared values.
• Speak with community groups, individuals, and policymakers about strategies for preventing antisemitism on campus.
• Work as a resource for Jewish students and faculty in response to campus climate issues both managing incident reporting/tracking/outcomes, and developing longer-term strategies. This may include taking a role in leading advocacy work or helping facilitate legal and/or PR resources. 
• Manage the relationships with press and media partners, write press releases, short responses to incidents and support the Hillel in its effort to communicate to the greater public through the lens of various media outlets.
• Write op-eds, letters, newsletters, action alerts, press releases, social media, and statements related to campus culture initiatives on behalf of Hillel at Baruch College

What You’ll Bring to the Job

• Bachelor's degree and 5+ years experience in college campus work, Jewish community, or community relations.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven record of building productive working relationships.
• Experience working with student governments and policy.
• Ability to prioritize diplomacy and work in collaboration toward solutions.
• Knowledge of Jewish history and culture, the characteristics of antisemitism, and Zionism and anti-Zionism.
• Passion for challenging antisemitism and anti-Zionism and for American values of democracy, religious freedom, and pluralism.
• Social media prowess.
• Ability to think critically, embrace data, and develop solutions to problems.
• An organized and detail-oriented approach to work.

What You’ll Receive

• Competitive salary in the nonprofit marketplace. The salary range for this role is $85,000 - $95,000.

The Hillel at Baruch, City, John Jay, Pace, SVA, FIT, Fordham, and New School aims to serve 4,500 Jewish students across eight campuses in Manhattan. Our mission is to enrich the lives of the Jewish undergraduate and graduate students so they may enrich the Jewish people and the world.  The commuter students that attend these schools come from diverse backgrounds including the Former Soviet Union, Persian, Bukharian, Syrian, Israeli, and American-born students.  Club activities take place during club hours on campus and away from campus at locations across Manhattan.  Activities are centered around our primary pillars of:
