This role is for an analytics lead, reporting to the CEO & board. You will lead a 3-person analytics pod, transforming product, customer, and business signals into board reviews, QBRs, and strategic decisions. The focus is on owning the question roadmap and the KPI system and ensuring the quality and accuracy of all critical business metrics, rather than just servicing report tickets.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
- Turn monthly operating reviews and quarterly Board/QBRs into decision-ready narratives on product, adoption, and business movement, tied to a governed metric system.
- Convert ambiguous asks into a ranked analytics roadmap, crisp acceptance criteria, and release bars for the pod.
- Explain what moved, why it moved, and what action follows by querying data, pressure-testing logic before leadership review.
- Land decks and written recommendations that survive executive scrutiny due to reviewable analysis, assumptions, and KPI definitions.
- Commission and own the metric system for admissions, accreditation, product adoption, and institute health, ensuring a single approved definition set.
- Lock KPI governance across persona packs for Chairperson, VC, Admissions, and Finance.
- Shape LLM-assisted analytics workflows to ensure grounding in governed marts and cited evidence.
- Read lineage, catalog entries, and query/runtime signals to challenge bad joins, stale definitions, or performance regressions.
- Raise the pod's quality bar by running reviews that connect business intent to dbt exposures, BI models, and release criteria.
- Translate business questions into BRDs, user stories, test scenarios, and sign-off criteria.
- Partner with Data Engineers and Data Analysts to ensure trustworthy packs ship on promised cadences with clear ownership.
- Coach analysts to use SQL, semantic models, and LLM copilots effectively, maintaining high speed and review standards.
Qualifications
- 6–12 years in business analysis, analytics, BI, or strategic insights roles with visible business impact.
- Owned the metric system and executive reporting cadence for a real business (semantic layer, KPI governance, QBR/Board packs).
- Ability to write advanced SQL (window functions, CTE-heavy debugging, grain checks, joins, partition pruning, performance trade-offs).
- Capable of defining a metric once and maintaining its stability across dashboards, decks, and copilots (measure logic, owner/definition/source/SLA, versioned glossary).
- Deep understanding of BI semantic models (star-schema, reusable measures, DAX or equivalent, refresh/publish discipline, dashboard release review).
- Proficiency in reading dbt lineage, exposures, model docs, and catalog trails to review data defensibility and challenge pipeline logic.
- Comfortable reviewing metric-layer implementation details with engineers (incremental logic, snapshots, contracts, freshness, exposures).
- Proven executive communication skills for CXO or Board-level audiences.
- High standard in classic BA craft: BRDs, user stories, acceptance criteria, process flows, requirement-validation workshops.
- Experience leading or mentoring analysts, rigorous work review, and people development.
- Comfort owning ambiguous, cross-functional problems and prioritizing multiple workstreams.
- Experience building recurring reporting and self-serve analytics.
- Strong grasp of product or SaaS-style metrics, with judgment to learn new domains quickly.
- Exceptional accuracy and detail orientation.
- Fluency with LLM-assisted daily work across analysis, drafting, requirement writing, and SQL/DAX iteration, with good judgment on prompt boundaries and evidence quality.
