Liquid Personnel is recruiting an experienced Best Interests Assessors to support their Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) Service in reducing assessment waiting times in Exeter, Devon. This is an excellent opportunity for qualified BIAs who have practised within the last two months and are able to commit to a minimum of twelve assessments per month over a minimum six-month period.
The role is predominantly remote, offering flexibility whilst undertaking statutory Best Interests Assessments and producing high-quality reports. The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards, including the practical application of recent legal developments and case law. You will be responsible for undertaking complex assessments, analysing information from multiple sources, and producing legally robust reports capable of withstanding scrutiny in court proceedings where necessary.

What will your responsibilities be? 

  • Undertaking statutory Best Interests Assessments in accordance with the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards framework.
  • Managing a workload of complex assessments, prioritising effectively to meet statutory timescales and service requirements.
  • Gathering, analysing, and evaluating information from service users, families, care providers, and partner agencies to produce holistic assessments and recommendations.
  • Producing detailed, accurate, and legally defensible assessment reports and documentation to a high professional standard.
  • Applying detailed knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards, Mental Health Act, and associated legal frameworks within practice.
  • Convening and chairing multidisciplinary meetings where appropriate, including situations involving challenge, conflict, or legal proceedings.
  • Working collaboratively with professionals across health, social care, and partner organisations to promote integrated and person-centred outcomes.
  • Supporting safeguarding activity and contributing to Court of Protection applications where required.
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records using council systems and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and professional standards. 

Qualifications and Experience: 

To be successful in this role you must have;  

  • Qualified Best Interests Assessor with recent practical experience undertaking DoLS assessments.
  • Registration with the relevant professional regulatory body (Social Work England, NMC, HCPC, or equivalent professional body).
  • Significant post-qualification experience within Social Care, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, or Chartered Psychology.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards, and relevant legal frameworks.
  • Experience working within multi-agency environments and contributing to court-related processes.
  • Ability to analyse complex information, exercise professional judgement, and make legally robust recommendations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce accurate and comprehensive reports.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to work independently in a remote environment.
