Position Summary

The Commercial Account Executive is responsible for generating and closing new business across a diverse range of commercial industries.

This is a blended, full-cycle sales role. The Account Executive will manage inbound opportunities while also generating pipeline through targeted outbound prospecting, networking, referrals, events, and account development.

The role owns the sales process from initial engagement through discovery, demonstration, negotiation, and close. Success is measured by quota attainment, new recurring revenue, pipeline generation, forecast accuracy, and consistent sales execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Achieve or exceed assigned new-business and recurring-revenue targets.
  • Build and maintain sufficient qualified pipeline through a combination of inbound lead conversion and self-generated prospecting.
  • Identify and engage prospective customers across a broad range of commercial industries.
  • Own the full sales cycle from qualification and discovery through demonstration, negotiation, and contract execution.
  • Conduct effective discovery to understand the prospect’s business challenges, governance priorities, decision process, stakeholders, urgency, and desired outcomes.
  • Build relationships with champions, executives, decision-makers, economic buyers, and other stakeholders involved in the purchase.
  • Deliver relevant presentations and demonstrations that connect OnBoard’s capabilities to the prospect’s needs.
  • Maintain clear next steps, decision milestones, and close plans throughout the sales process.
  • Navigate procurement, legal, security, and commercial reviews in partnership with internal teams.
  • Maintain accurate and timely opportunity records, pipeline data, activity, next steps, and forecasts in Salesforce.
  • Consistently apply OnBoard’s qualification standards and sales-process expectations.
  • Partner with Sales Development, Marketing, Solution Consultants, Legal, Finance, Product, and Customer Success to create and advance opportunities.
  • Coordinate a complete handoff to Customer Success following contract execution.
  • Share relevant customer, competitor, and market feedback with Product and Marketing.

Skills and Experience

Required

  • Three or more years of successful quota-carrying B2B software or technology sales experience.
  • Demonstrated success managing a full sales cycle and achieving revenue targets.
  • Ability to generate pipeline independently through outbound prospecting and account development.
  • Experience converting inbound leads into qualified opportunities and closed business.
  • Strong discovery, qualification, presentation, negotiation, and closing skills.
  • Ability to communicate business value to executives and senior-level stakeholders.
  • Strong business acumen, organization, and forecasting discipline.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively across multiple industries and stakeholder groups.
  • Resilience, accountability, curiosity, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Preferred

  • Experience selling to executives, boards, legal, finance, governance, or operations leaders.
  • Experience selling into private, commercial, growth-oriented, family-owned, investor-backed, or multi-entity businesses.
  • Familiarity with board management, governance, compliance, collaboration, or secure document-management technology.
  • Experience with Salesforce and sales-engagement or revenue-intelligence tools.
  • Experience using AI tools responsibly to improve sales productivity.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
