Position Summary

The Head of Engineering owns product delivery, engineering execution, and team performance.

We have already deployed a multi-agent system using OpenClaw and our internal Claude Code system. These agents operate across product, engineering, design, data, and operations. Parts of the system work today. Much of it is inconsistent, hard to measure, and not reliable enough for production use.

This role is responsible for fixing that and turning it into a system that drives revenue.

Position Summary

The Head of AI Agent Systems owns the design, performance, and evolution of Wonderschool’s multi-agent system.

This role is responsible for turning a partially working agent system into a production-grade platform that directly drives revenue by improving how we acquire customers, onboard them, operate their businesses, and iterate on product.

This is a hands-on role. You will work directly in the codebase, agent system, and infrastructure while leading a small team of engineers. You will be responsible for making the system work in practice and tying it to business outcomes.

This role reports directly to the CEO.

Responsibilities

Drive Revenue Through Agent Systems

• Design and deploy agent-driven workflows that directly impact revenue generation
• Improve conversion, onboarding speed, and provider revenue through automation
• Partner with product and go-to-market to identify high-leverage revenue opportunities and implement them through agent systems
• Use agents to accelerate experimentation on pricing, enrollment, and growth features
• Tie agent performance to business outcomes such as revenue growth, conversion rates, and usage

Own Agent System Architecture and Performance

• Own the architecture of the multi-agent system including OpenClaw, Claude Code, GBrain, and internal tooling
• Improve agent output quality so outputs are usable without heavy human correction
• Identify and fix system-level issues including poor outputs, coordination failures, memory loss, and context limitations
• Design evaluation systems to measure success rates, failure modes, and reliability

Build a Reliable Multi-Agent Execution System

• Redesign agent workflows so core processes execute reliably end-to-end
• Ensure product development workflows from requirements through deploy can run through agents
• Improve agent-to-agent coordination so tasks are completed without manual intervention
• Introduce validation layers, retry logic, and clear ownership across workflows

Drive Adoption Across the Company

• Enable engineering, product, design, go-to-market, and operations teams to use agents in their daily workflows
• Define and enforce standards for how work is done using agents
• Reduce reliance on manual processes by shifting execution to agent systems
• Ensure systems are usable by non-engineers

Build Measurement and Feedback Loops

• Implement system-wide reporting on agent performance
• Track success rates, failure types, task completion, and human intervention
• Use this data to continuously improve system performance
• Create a system that improves over time rather than degrading

Lead and Scale the Team

• Lead a small team of 2-3 engineers including DevOps
• Hire and develop engineers who can build and operate agent systems
• Maintain a high performance bar and clear accountability

Compensation (Future Opportunities – California)

For future Forward Deployed AI Engineer roles based in California, the expected base salary range is approximately $181,000 – $203,000. Position Summary

This role builds the core systems that power Wonderschool’s platform, enabling providers to launch and grow their businesses, governments to operate programs at scale, and families to access care. As a Senior Full Stack Engineer, you will own features end-to-end, working across frontend, backend, and data layers to deliver high-quality, scalable products.

You will operate as a builder, partnering closely with product, design, and go-to-market teams to turn real-world problems into simple, effective solutions. Responsibilities

Build and Own Product End-to-End

• Design, build, and ship full-stack features that improve provider, parent, and government experiences
• Own the full development lifecycle, from scoping and architecture to implementation and production support
• Write high-quality, maintainable code with strong test coverage

You will work closely with our sales, onboarding, and account management teams to automate workflows, build better customer experiences, and unlock new growth.

What You’ll Do
Work directly with users and internal teams to identify high-leverage problems and ship product solutions. Write production code (approximately 50% of your time) and ship weekly improvements across the customer journey. Use tools like Widesurf, Cursor, and other AI accelerators to increase your velocity and quality of output. Build and deploy AI-powered tooling that eliminates manual effort and improves the experience for providers, parents, and government partners. Automate onboarding flows, proposal generation, reporting processes, and other operational workflows. Own full loops: talk to users, design solutions, write code, test, deploy, and monitor adoption. Prioritize based on business impact and collaborate across teams to drive measurable results.

What Success Looks Like
You uncover user pain points faster than anyone else and consistently ship solutions that address them. You deploy AI-infused internal tools or product experiences that improve core metrics (conversion, retention, revenue). You fully own feedback loops, from discovery to deployment, and iterate rapidly. Internal teams rely on your tools to operate faster and with fewer resources. You’re moving fast, staying close to the customer, and operating with very little hand-holding.

Who You Are
A builder and founder at heart, you’ve started a company, built products that got users, or made revenue independently. Comfortable talking to users weekly and distilling insight into product decisions. Technical enough to ship production code on your own, experience with Python, JavaScript, or similar languages. We started with childcare providers because it is a large, underserved market where technology can have an outsized impact on revenue. We are heavy users of AI. OpenClaw agents run most of our operations: provider outreach, customer communications, enrollment workflows, compliance tasks. Non-engineers at Wonderschool spin up automations, cron jobs, and API workflows directly from Slack, without touching a line of code. The Vision

The North Star for this role: a system where a user signal (a provider revenue dropping, an enrollment bottleneck, a churn spike) automatically triggers a chain of AI agents that writes the product requirements, designs the solution, builds the code, reviews it, and ships it. No human in the loop for the routine stuff. Humans define what matters, train the agents, and review edge cases.

We are not there yet. You are the person who helps us get there, piece by piece.

What You Will Do

Own the AI Development Loop

• Review and iterate on AI-generated code (from tools like Claude Code, OpenClaw, Codex, Cursor) and feed that review back as training signal to make the agents better over time
• Architect the codebase for AI legibility: clean data models, strong documentation, deprecation of legacy patterns that cause agents to fail
• Build and maintain the automated product pipeline: signal detection, agent-generated requirements, AI-driven development, AI code review, commit
• When agents break in production, you own the diagnosis and fix

Enable the Business, Not Just the Product

• Build tools and workflow infrastructure that let operations, sales, and customer success teams operate the platform themselves, without filing engineering tickets
• Translate what internal teams need into automated, reliable systems
• Help non-engineers understand what is possible and then make it happen

Ship Full-Stack Product

• Build features across the frontend and backend: React/TypeScript on the front, Node.js or Elixir on the back, Postgres underneath
• Own the full lifecycle from requirements to production
• Debug issues across the entire stack

Stay Close to What Is Live

• Actively observe the production environment: usage patterns, agent failures, edge cases, provider behavior
• This role requires a high degree of personal accountability for system health. When things are running well, that is because you have built the monitoring and alerting to catch problems early. Getting there takes commitment.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as a full stack engineer
• Hands-on experience with AI coding agents (Claude Code, OpenClaw, Codex, Cursor, or similar) in a real development workflow
• Strong product instincts: you can take ambiguous user signals and turn them into concrete technical requirements without heavy PM support
• Proficiency with React/TypeScript and at least one backend language (Node.js, Elixir, Ruby on Rails, or similar)
• Experience with Postgres or similar relational databases
• High ownership mentality: you do not wait to be told something is broken
• Clear, direct communication skills, written and verbal

What We Are Not Looking For

This is not a 9-to-5 role. At this stage, getting AI agents to ship reliable production code requires close observation of what is actually happening in the codebase. When the system is working well, that monitoring is lightweight and mostly automated. Getting it to that point requires genuine commitment: watching the system, catching failures before they compound, and iterating fast.

We are also not looking for engineers who want to write code in isolation. If enabling non-technical teammates and removing yourself from repetitive engineering work does not sound appealing, this probably is not the right fit.
