Stability AI’s Engineering Operations team is looking for a Senior Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to join our growing team and play a pivotal role in improving and shaping our cloud infrastructure. The person will closely work with engineering, IT, security, and product teams to drive innovation and reliability in an evolving environment. Candidates should have the initiative to build and improve a maturing cloud landscape.

Responsibilities:

• Developing and enforcing SRE best practices and standards across the organization.
• Architecting and managing scalable systems in AWS and other cloud environments, focusing on high availability and resilience.
• Implementing and maintaining infrastructure as code using Terraform.
• Setting up and refining monitoring, logging, and alerting systems.
• Driving incident management and root cause analysis to improve system reliability.
• Championing SRE principles and mentoring junior team members.

Qualifications:

• Collaborating with development teams to enhance CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience scaling resource intensive systems, be it storage, networking, or compute.
• Knowledge and experience with Kubernetes or other container scaling solutions
• Background in software development or automation scripting.
• Knowledge and experience with Grafana, ELK stack, or similar tools.
• Cloud security experience.

Generative AI Inference Engineer

About the role: 

We are seeking passionate Machine Learning Engineers to join our Inference team, focusing on the creative applications of generative AI models. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience developing and running inference for multi-modal models. A deep understanding of diffusion model architectures and familiarity with workflow tools like ComfyUI are a big plus. You will be expected to leverage and push the boundaries of state-of-the-art inference optimization techniques for multi-modal generative models. This role offers the opportunity to work alongside top researchers and engineers, utilizing cutting-edge high-performance computing resources to make a significant impact in the rapidly evolving field of generative AI.

Responsibilities:  

• Lead efforts to drive the design, development of customer-facing multi modal ML inference systems.
• Work with the Platform and Inference teams on building inference systems for the next generation of models, where you will work on areas such as optimization, model tuning and deployment.
• Partner with leading cloud providers to deliver hosted Stability AI inference solutions.
• Be a strategic thought partner for leaders across the organization on driving business impact through machine learning
• Be part of the team to bring new Stability models and pipelines into existence
• Prototype and productionize inference platform improvements and new features 

Qualifications:

• 7+ years working on productionizing machine learning systems, including inference pipeline development
• Expert level knowledge on writing and running python services at scale
• 5+ years working on python scientific stack, pyTorch and at least one high-performance inference framework (e.g. Triton and TensorRT)
• Deep understanding of Diffusion Architecture
• Experience profiling and optimizing deep neural networks on Nvidia GPUs, using profiling tools such as NVIDIA Nsight
• Experience with python-based image manipulation/encoding/decoding frameworks, such as OpenCV
• Experience deploying to cloud orchestration systems such as Kubernetes and cloud providers such as AWS, GCP, and Azure
• Experience with Docker
• Ability to rapidly prototype solutions and iterate on them with tight product deadlines
• Strong communication, collaboration, and documentation skills
• Experience with the open-source ML ecosystem (HuggingFace, W&B, etc.)

We are seeking a Director of Data Strategy & Operations to oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of data acquisition and management for our foundation models across 3D, video, image, and audio. You will be critical for identifying, sourcing, and preparing high-quality datasets while ensuring legal compliance and operational efficiency.

What you'll do...

• Data Sourcing & Strategy: Identify and acquire diverse datasets from public and commercial partners while managing complex technical and legal requirements. You will also collaborate with research teams to ensure these data sources align with specific model training and fine-tuning needs (3D, audio, image).
• Technical and Operational Management: Oversee the technical lifecycle of large-scale data, from managing ingestion, curation, and AWS S3 storage optimization to ensuring system reliability and code quality. Additionally, you will develop internal tools and standards to make massive datasets searchable, accessible, and efficiently indexed for research use.
• Legal & Compliance: You will partner with the legal team to mitigate risks, ensure global regulatory compliance, and manage strict sensitive data protection rules. Furthermore, you will serve as a key representative for the company in legal matters, including providing testimony regarding data usage and licensing.
• Vendor & Project Management: You will lead high-level data vendor management by negotiating Master Services Agreements (MSAs) and Statements of Work (SOWs) while overseeing partnerships for data annotation, evaluation, and specialized collection projects. Additionally, you will drive cross-functional alignment between technical leads and researchers to ensure the data strategy directly supports the company’s product roadmap.

What you'll bring...

• 10+ years experience in senior data leadership roles within AI/ML environments, managing a team of engineers across different timezones.
• Deep expertise in data licensing, intellectual property rights, and regulatory compliance.
• Strong technical background in managing massive datasets, AWS S3 (or equivalent) storage, and data engineering workflows.
• Proven track record of negotiating high-value contracts and managing external vendor relationships.
• Ability to collaborate with research and legal teams to balance technical needs with legal constraints.

Compensation

The salary range for this role is between $238,000 and $260,000 USD. Individual pay within the range is based on factors like job-related skills and experience. Total compensation also includes stock options and benefits.

Distributed Systems Backend Engineer

We are looking for highly skilled Backend Engineers to rapidly deliver REST APIs and applications that leverage our models to provide delightful, multi-modal customer experiences. We are hiring at multiple career levels, including team lead positions.

Responsibilities:

• Design and implement public REST APIs and services, including data storage and ML backend services.
• Write clean and extensible Python and Typescript code with production-grade telemetry, scalability, debuggability and security best practices.
• Design and implement efficient database schemas for user preferences, subscription and billing management, content history management optimized for low latency responses.
• Work closely with product management, design, research, and engineering teams to deliver high-quality and user-friendly products
• Identify performance bottlenecks in services and apis.  Deliver optimized solutions to address them.
• Participate in on-call, incident management and root cause analysis to improve system reliability.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in designing and building REST APIs and distributed services for enterprise and consumer products in a high scale environment.
• 2+ years of experience working with production AI/ML applications.
• Demonstrated experience in building robust backend services on Kubernetes/AWS/GCP/Azure infrastructure.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Highly proficient in Python, TypeScript. 
• Experience with Node.js, Cloudflare Workers, Postgres and NoSQL databases preferable.
• Proficiency in writing comprehensive technical documentation (API documentation, design documents).
• Experience in streaming multi-modal content (audio and video) is desirable but not required.
