SPACEPORT DESIGNER, INTERIOR DESIGN

As a member of the Starbase Development team, you will have direct ownership of leading the aesthetic vision for Starbase, with a key focus on making all facilities inspiring places to work. You will directly manage all phases of projects from concept development through execution. You will work with a group of elite engineers, architects and construction project managers across multiple disciplines to build out the Starbase campus as the gateway to Mars. This position is based in Starbase, Texas. (Brownsville/South Padre Island Area).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Coordinates with stakeholders and end users to define project requirements, evaluate project feasibility and perform spatial planning
Prepares design development documents, presentations, renders and material pallets to communicate design intent
Produces drawings, elevations, sections, specifications, and schedules with attention to details
Compiles database of existing finishes and FF&E specifications and manages color & material studio
Prepares cohesive design standards for sitewide development, and ensures consistency and maintenance of the SpaceX and Starbase brand
Manages procurement and oversees installation of design elements
Partners with cross-departmental teams to define requirements and derive design details for all functional and utility needs
Performs project control tasks, including project scheduling, budgeting, and cost control. Designs all elements of project to meet target budgets.
Resolves design and construction conflicts in the field in real time
Takes on new projects ad-hoc as the business needs
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Self-motivated and works autonomously and efficiently in a dynamic team environment

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree
2+ years of experience creating design documents including plans, elevations, specifications and schedules

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree or master's degree in architecture, interior design, or related design discipline
Experience in designing spaces that are modern, minimalist, and/or futuristic
Experience in designing physical environments or branding for commercial and hospitality spaces
Experience in selection of finishes, furniture, fixtures, equipment, and artwork for industrial and commercial projects
Experience designing custom art pieces, including murals, sculptures or other exhibitions
Proficiency in Revit, Sketchup, Revu Bluebeam, and/or AutoCAD software
Proficiency in rendering software (Photoshop, Lumion, D5, Enscape, or similar)

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position is based in Starbase, TX (Brownsville/South Padre Island Area) and requires being onsite – remote work not considered
Must be available to work extended hours and weekends when needed based on project and site operational needs; flexibility required
Comfortable working in a high-stress environment balancing several projects at any given time and the flexibility to adjust for abrupt changes in strategic direction

MECHANICAL ENGINEER, INFRASTRUCTURE

Our elite Starbase team is working on the toughest and most audacious project on our planet; making humanity multiplanetary. This challenge isn’t for everyone – the working conditions can be hard on a desolate beach at the southernmost tip of the state – but hardcore projects require hardcore people.

This engineer will support the team responsible for building and upgrading facilities and GSE to develop a high-volume rocket factory. RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lead MEP design and coordination for residential, commercial, and industrial projects
Partner with cross-departmental teams to define requirements and derive design details
Prepare and review design drawings and documents for mechanical, electrical, and fluid systems and specifications for a variety of engineering projects
Manage construction activities related to MEP systems, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements
Use construction/engineering knowledge to expedite the design process and solve conflicts during construction
Write and manage construction contracts with subcontractors across multiple disciplines through contract close-out
Perform project control tasks, including project scheduling, budgeting, and cost control
Resolve design and construction conflicts in the field in real time
Oversee and own full lifecycle of tasks and/or projects to achieve on-time and under budget delivery with customer satisfaction. The following project management responsibilities are applicable:
- Manage tools and folder systems relating to the organization of our construction projects
- Provide budgetary costs based upon the preliminary scope of the project
- Gather proposals from architects, engineers and contractors; assign contracts upon receipt of all proposals
- Develop the final cost and schedule for the project, and implement controls as needed to manage cost, schedule and scope
- Facilitate city, county, and governmental approvals
- Coordinate project implementation and track project status
- Work with the facilities team and customers in order to operationalize the post-construction building operations and maintenance functions
- Coordinate with customer and facilities teams for building operations and maintenance
- Manage night shift contractors as project work requires
- Take on new projects ad-hoc as the business needs
Coordinate permit acquisition/closeout with permitting team

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, or structural engineering
1+ years of experience creating structural, civil, or MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) construction documents including plans, elevations, sections, and details

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Proven ability to manage multiple projects, think critically, and drive successful outcomes
Possess the mentality of extreme ownership. Owning project outcomes from the concept phase to customer turnover
Experience in construction, project management, and tenant improvement
Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, or other MEP design and analysis software
Proficiency with design and construction of electrical, plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC/R), controls systems, fire protection systems, concrete, structural framing, and industrial gas trades
Ability to read instructions and blueprints
Knowledge of basic construction and engineering principles and method
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Self-motivated and able to work collaboratively in a team environment

CONSTRUCTION PROJECT MANAGER, STARBASE DEVELOPMENT (STARSHIP)

As a member of the Starbase development team, you will work with a group of elite engineers and project managers across multiple disciplines to design, build, and commission infrastructure for a variety of projects at Starbase as well as other SpaceX Facilities. You will influence design and own projects from start to finish to build Starbase into Earth’s first interplanetary port. This position is based in South Texas (Brownsville/South Padre area).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Write and manage design, engineering, and construction contracts across multiple disciplines through contract close-out
Perform project control tasks including project scheduling, budgeting, quality control, logistics, and operational coordination
Manage all aspects of multidisciplinary construction projects, both as an administrator and in the field
Interact with contractors, designers, fabricators, and internal customers
Resolve design and construction conflicts in real-time in the field
Oversee and own the full lifecycle of projects to achieve on-time and under-budget delivery with customer satisfaction. The following project management responsibilities apply:

Manage tools and folder systems relating to the organization of our construction projects
Provide budgetary estimates based upon the preliminary scope of the project
Gather proposals from architects, engineers and contractors; award contracts upon receipt of all proposals
Develop the final cost and schedule for the project, and implement controls as needed to manage cost, schedule, and scope
Review technical submittals
Facilitate city, county, and governmental approvals
Coordinate project implementation and track project status
Coordinate with end user and facilities team for building operations and maintenance
Manage night shift contractors as project work requires
Communicate with internal legal team in case of contractual dispute

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

3+ years of professional experience in construction management or engineering

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in architecture, construction management, construction science, or an engineering discipline
Experience with project management and scheduling software
Design experience in a technical field
Basic proficiency with AutoCAD
Knowledge of processes of jurisdictional permitting and/or environmental agencies
Understanding of multiple disciplines such as civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, geotechnical, and surveying
Experience with project management of major construction projects including estimating, cost control, schedule, and contractor management
Experience reading, reviewing, and approving shop and fabrication drawings, blueprints, and technical manuals
Ability to rapidly change roles and responsibilities while maintaining a high sense of urgency in a high-paced, challenging work environment
Ability to work independently and in a team, take initiative, and communicate effectively

Occasional travel may be required to support vehicle operations at production and launch sites
