RECOVERY BARGE TECHNICIAN II

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Barge Technicians to support Rocket Lab’s Neutron Recovery team in Middle River MD. The Barge Technicians support Neutron’s offshore recovery missions by operating and maintaining critical deck and recovery systems. This role requires strong marine operational experience, technical skill with heavy equipment, and the ability to work effectively in a high-tempo offshore environment. Experience supporting rocket recovery or aerospace marine operations is highly desirable.

WHAT YOU’LL GET TO DO:

• Assist with offshore rocket recovery operations aboard marine barges and support vessels
• Operate, monitor, and maintain deck equipment used during recovery missions
• Support setup, inspection, and handling of rocket interface hardware, including:
  • Rocket holding and securing systems
  • Inerting and tank safety systems
• Execute safe handling procedures for flight hardware once secured on deck
• Perform routine maintenance and pre-mission checks on marine and recovery equipment
• Coordinate with marine crew, engineers, and recovery team members during operations
• Follow all maritime safety, environmental, and mission-specific procedures
• Participate in offshore mobilization and demobilization activities

YOU’LL BRING THESE QUALIFICATIONS AS A RECOVERY BARGE TECHNICIAN II:

• High School diploma or GED
• 2+ years experience with deck operations and heavy marine equipment
• Strong understanding of offshore safety procedures and vessel operations
• Must be able to obtain Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)

THESE QUALIFICATIONS WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE:

• Experience supporting rocket recovery or aerospace marine operations
• Familiarity with lifting, securing, and transport of large or sensitive structures
• Knowledge of inert gas systems or tank safety systems
• Previous work on recovery barges, offshore platforms, or specialized marine vessels

SENIOR MARINE ENGINEER

The Marine Engineer position will initially be based out of Rocket Lab's Space Structures complex in Middle River, MD You will responsible for the design and development of all Recovery assets needed to support Neutron Recovery. You will interface You will be responsible for successful Neutron Recovery program designs and hardware to enable development, testing, flight, and recovery. 

WHAT YOU’LL GET TO DO: 

• Work as a part of a team of engineers through the early stages of developing the Neutron Recovery program
• Own critical Recovery Sub System designs, analysis and other technical details as needed to support the objectives of the team
• Serve as technical expert for marine system designs & recovered flight hardware post processing required for Neutron Recovery
• Develop technical details to for Recovery designs including what hardware to build and how tests are performed in order to maximize the program’s available resources towards meaningful progress on Neutron
• Collaborate heavily with Rocket Lab Engineering teams to ensure all systems are operational to support Neutron Recovery
• Support Recovery system fabrication and testing both remotely and onsite as needed at Wallops Island as well as other facilities 

QUALIFICATIONS YOU'LLL BRING AS A SENIOR MARINE ENGINEER I:

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, naval, marine, electrical, systems or aerospace engineering.
• 5+ years work experience related to aerospace vehicles/payloads or marine assemblies 

THESE QUALIFICATIONS WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE:  

• Experience working with teams of engineers to successful outcomes on challenging projects with tight timelines and budgets 
• Experience designing and building complex, multi-disciplinary systems including; 
• Electrical, Mechanical, Hydraulic, Fluids, or Marine Systems 
• Self-motivated and directed with keen attention to detail 
• Ongoing drive for continuous improvement in all aspects of work 
• Detail oriented, organized, and demonstrate a high sense of urgency 
• Ability to work in fast-paced, high stress and remote environments 
• Ability to work autonomously, prioritize work, and make resource allocation recommendations that involve risk and uncertainty 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to work in a high-concentration, high-stress environment; good response to problems posed by short deadlines; prolonged mental concentration (under possible extended work hours) 
• Willing to support offshore operations, including working recovery missions at sea averaging 5 or more days per quarter 
• Position may require long hours (10-12+ hour days) and weekend work 
• Willing to work in extreme outdoor environments – heat, cold, rain, wind, open ocean 
• Ability to climb ladders and work in tight/confined spaces 
• Willing to work with hazardous materials 
• Ability to perform job duties that require standing, kneeling, crouching, twisting upper body, working in cramped positions in small openings, climbing hand over hand, and lifting 25 lbs. 
• Ability to operate heavy machinery

RECOVERY BARGE SUPERVISOR

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Barge Supervisor to lead our offshore recovery team during rocket recovery missions. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership abilities, extensive offshore or marine experience, and a background in rocket recovery operations is preferred. This role involves managing a team of technicians, overseeing deck equipment, handling rocket interfacing equipment such as holding systems and inert tank systems and ensuring the safe and efficient recovery of Neutron offshore.

WHAT YOU’LL GET TO DO: 

• Supervise offshore team and all activities during transfer operations and critical recovery operations.
• Conduct barge upkeep under direction of Port Engineer
• Conduct maintenance of barge deck equipment under direction of Port Engineer.
• Responsible for the hiring process of Barge and Marine Technicians.
• Directly supervise complicated or sensitive crew transfer operations at the direction of Offshore Manager.
• Assist with annual ABS, USCG inspections.
• Coordinate and present at scheduled crew meetings and training sessions.
• Work closely with companywide team members to ensure a safe, efficient, and reliable operation.
• Participate in the development of new programs, policies, and procedures to enhance quality of operation.
• Submit weekly operational reports to the Port Engineer.
• Cover barge attendance scheduling as needed.
• Conduct shore side terminal work under direction of Marine Transportation Manager.
• Work closely with shore side maintenance to ensure barges and all marine assets are properly maintained

YOU’LL BRING THESE QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, naval, marine, electrical, systems or aerospace engineering.
• Will consider 9 years of relevant experience in lieu of a bachelor’s degree. 
• 5+ years barge operations experience
• A USCG Issued MMC with a National Deck rating
• Must posses a valid TWIC card.

THESE QUALIFICATIONS WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE:

• USCG issued MMC with a National Mate License
• Experience operating diesel engines, cargo pumps, hydraulic booms, cargo gear, gate valves, and butterfly valves.
