About One Acre Fund
Founded in 2006, One Acre Fund equips 5.5 million smallholder farmers to make their farms more productive. Across nine countries that together are home to two-thirds of Africa's farmers, we provide high-quality farm supplies, tree seedlings, accessible credit, modern agronomic training, and a wide range of other agricultural services. On average, this model enables any farmer to increase their income and assets on supported land by more than 35 percent, while permanently improving their resilience. Our Rwanda program, founded in 2007 is our largest and operates under the local brand Tubura. We have more than 3,000 staff across all four provinces of Rwanda, as well as in Kigali. Together, we served more than 2.8 million farmers in 2024. We work closely with the government to support national efforts to improve food security. Additionally, we help channel funding and resources to promising agri-SMEs, supporting farmers by providing a market for high-impact crops such as coffee, avocado, and chili.
About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated Biofortified Variety Trial and Adoption Coordinator to lead the testing, evaluation, and promotion of biofortified maize varieties in Rwanda. This role combines field research, data management, and stakeholder engagement to generate evidence that supports the release and adoption of improved maize varieties.
The successful candidate will oversee on-station and on-farm trials, ensure compliance with national and international standards (including DUS/VCU and UPOV), and work closely with farmers, extension teams, and partners to accelerate uptake of biofortified maize.
Responsibilities
Variety Performance Trials (Station & On-Farm)
- Coordinate with research specialists to design and implement maize variety trials across research stations and farmer fields.
- Monitor agronomic practices, trial performance, and data quality throughout the growing seasons
- Organize field days and demonstration events for farmers, seed companies, and stakeholders.
- Assess farmer interest, preferences, and acceptance of biofortified maize varieties.
- Collaborate with extension teams and partners to promote the adoption of released varieties.
Farmer Perception & Data Management
- Lead farmer preference and perception studies to understand adoption patterns.
- Oversee all field operations from trial layout to planting, crop management, and harvesting.
- Ensure compliance with research protocols, national regulations, and UPOV standards.
- Manage accurate and timely data collection, validation, and storage.
- Maintain well-organized databases for DUS and VCU trial data.
Reporting & Team Supervision
- Produce seasonal and annual technical reports.
- Supervise and guide technical staff and field laborers to ensure quality and efficiency.
- Promote a safe, collaborative, and high-performing work environment.

Qualifications
Across all roles, these are the general qualifications we look for. For this role specifically, you will have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Conservation Agriculture, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of DUS and VCU trial standards and seed systems.
- Experience in field trial management and agronomic research.
- Proficiency in data collection, cleaning, and reporting tools (e.g., Excel, Fieldbook, Google Sheets)
- Familiarity with conservation and agriculture practices.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
