Newark Academy is seeking a dynamic Computer Science teacher to join our Math Department for the 2026-27 school year. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching computer science and a demonstrated capacity to embrace student-centered, skills-focused, and culturally competent practices. The Math Department faculty is focused on encouraging inquiry and application as well as sharing the love of programming and systems with students. Faculty are encouraged to be involved in the life of the school through clubs, activities, and athletics.

 Desired Qualifications:

• Experience teaching computer science in middle school, upper school, or higher education settings. Professionals in industry or related fields or with non-traditional paths to education are also encouraged to apply.
• Bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s degree is preferred 
• Topics include but are limited to: JAVA, System Fundamentals, Computer Organization, Networks, Computational Thinking, Problem Solving, and Programming, Object Oriented Programming
• Experience working with and supporting a diverse community of students, parents, and colleagues
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
• Experience working in independent schools is preferred but not required 
• Flexibility to work on a rotating block schedule; classes do not run at the same time each day

Responsibilities:

• Create a positive, student-centered environment and work collegially with peers
• Prepare lessons to deliver to assigned classes 
• Participate in school-sponsored IB training, if needed
• Meet school guidelines regarding grading, recordkeeping, and use of the learning management system to post timely information about classes

Salary: 

Salary range $65,000 - $85,000. Salary is dependent on numerous factors, including but not limited to education and experience.

Position Summary

Accounts Receivable Bookkeeper

Newark Academy is seeking an Accounts Receivable Bookkeeper to join our Business Office. This position plays a vital role in supporting the school by ensuring the seamless management of tuition, billing, and enrollment-related finances. The AR professional serves as the primary liaison for families navigating the online payment system and managing the full life cycle of student financial accounts. 

Reports to: Chief Financial Officer

Responsibilities:

• Maintain and administer all aspects of student account billing to ensure all account information and financial activities are reflected accurately and timely in the student billing system
• Oversee charges and credits according to the appropriate payment plan as outlined in enrollment contracts
• Record payments and/or credits to student accounts and deposit any checks or cash received to the business
• Follow up directly with families regarding returned/declined payment activity (ACH returns, credit card disputes, etc.)
• Work with families to provide guidance with online payment systems
• Serve as the school’s primary collection representative regarding all past due charges, and initiate direct communication early in the collection cycle to reduce the risk of substantial past due balances
• Identify emerging collection issues for appropriate action in a timely manner through regular reviews of billing reports, such as AR aging or past due accounts
• Communicate with families who have past due accounts in a timely fashion, documenting collection activities, and sending notifications as instructed by the CFO
• Escalate collection issues to the CFO, as appropriate
• Maintain an accurate enrollment list, ensure that enrollment counts in student billing and applicant systems agree, and work with admission staff to resolve any variances or irregularities
• Apply financial aid awards to student accounts as directed by the Financial Aid Committee
• Initiate faculty payroll deduction for teachers whose children are students here
• Provide assistance as it relates to student billing in monthly financial reporting and the annual audit 
• Support the resolution of any discrepancies between the billing system, general reporting, and general ledger
• Handle all tuition refund and student accident claims

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree required 
• 3+ years of experience in bookkeeping or accounting, ideally in an independent school or nonprofit setting
• Exceptional organizational skills, high attention to detail, and the ability to handle sensitive financial information with strict confidentiality
• Professional written and verbal communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to interface and maintain effective relationships with students, faculty, administrators, parents/guardians
• Commitment to being a part of a diverse school community where all members are welcomed, respected, valued, and celebrated
• Blackbaud experience preferred
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and technology including Google Suite

Position Summary

Newark Academy seeks a Learning Specialist to join our Student Support Team. This position is highly collaborative, requiring both expertise and flexibility. Our next Learning Specialist must be skilled in fostering strong working relationships with parents, teachers, and students. The Specialist will join with our current Learning Specialist to coordinate, create, and implement support and accommodations between and for students and teachers. They will assist in the development of resources to educate teachers in research-based teaching practices and provide them with ongoing support and professional development. The Specialist will coordinate and manage Official Accommodation Plans for students, provide small group and individual instruction for recommended students, and lead parent education opportunities.

The Learning Specialist will have at least five years of experience working with students in grades 6-12 and will possess observable skills in evaluating and aiding students with various learning needs. It is fundamentally important that the Learning Specialist be culturally competent and able to promote an inclusive and equitable community, including by having a nurturing, caring, and clear tone with students. The successful candidate must be highly organized, have excellent interpersonal skills, and be able to provide practical, specialized instruction. This position follows a faculty work schedule, with an additional five days of remote summer work required for managing and responding to summer correspondence. 

Reports to: Assistant Head of School for Teaching and Learning

Responsibilities:

• Working directly with our current Learning Specialist, educators and Academic Support Team to evaluate strategies for supporting students and identifying students who may need additional diagnostic testing for learning differences.
• Interpreting neuro-psychoeducational testing and designing official accommodation plans in MyNA will be implemented by classroom educators.
• Working in partnership with parents, students, faculty, and administrators to interpret and understand neuro-psychoeducational testing and other relevant assessments to develop, monitor, and update student learning profiles.
• Coach, support, and partner with faculty in 1:1 coaching sessions to develop strategies for implementing accommodations and supporting students.
• Maintain communication with faculty, administrators, and families about students’ needs and progress and provide parent support as needed.
• Develop trusting relationships with students, their families, and faculty members.
• Communicate with students and parents regarding accommodations.
• Lead psychoeducational testing consultation meetings with educators.
• Maintain records of accommodation requests and implementation.
• Maintain and regularly update the referrals list for testing providers and student support.
• Oversee the testing center / extended time for grades 6-12.
• Promote and lead professional development opportunities for educators, students, and parents.
• Serve as the SSD coordinator and liaison for the Essex County Commission and for accommodation applications to ACT, College Board, and IB program testing.

Qualifications

• Experience with interpreting psycho-educational testing reports to develop individualized accommodation plans in line with the school’s philosophy
• Advanced degree in special education, psychology, or another related field
• Active NJ L.D.T.C Credential or Master’s level therapeutic licensure (LPCC, LCSW, NJ School Psychologist) is strongly preferred. 
• At least five years of school-based experience providing learning support for middle and upper school students
• In-depth knowledge and experience implementing multi-tiered educational assistance
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively and collegially
• Excellent verbal and written communication
• Demonstrated high ethical and professional standards
• A nuanced understanding of issues related to diversity, equity, and belonging in educational settings

Salary range $70,000 - $80,000. Salary is dependent on numerous factors, including but not limited to education and experience.
