At Modern Animal, we’re redefining veterinary care with a technology-forward approach and a deep commitment to people. With thoughtfully designed clinics, a membership-based model, and innovative software, we’re creating a new standard of care.
We’re looking for a Senior Product Engineer to join our team of builders.
This role is for someone who can own complex, high-impact initiatives end-to-end — you will shape problems, define solutions, drive delivery across interdisciplinary teams, and hold yourself accountable for business outcomes. Our application ecosystem includes a customer-facing iOS/Android app and an in-house EMR platform built in partnership with our medical team.
This role is based in Los Angeles, California. Our team is in-office 3 days a week at our Culver City HQ.
Multidiscipline Curiosity — You have a deep curiosity about how systems work across domains (engineering, product, operations, and medical workflows); you have a strong desire to understand the full context behind problems.
Pragmatic Problem Solving — You connect business goals with technical tradeoffs, and drive teams to solutions that are both practical and scalable.
Effective Communication — You communicate complex ideas clearly across audiences (engineering, product, operations, medical, and leadership teams), both in writing and verbally.
Technical Leadership — You have a strong foundation in system design, architecture, and software engineering best practices, with the ability to guide others. You build systems that are operationally sound, and lead teams in production support scenarios.
Ownership & Project Leadership — You lead large and ambiguous initiatives: defining scope, identifying success criteria, making data driven decisions, aligning stakeholders, managing execution, and ultimately delivering outcomes.
Product Mindset — You see beyond implementation. You focus on user experience and business impact to ensure the right solution is built, not just the technically correct one.
Continuous Improvement — You actively reflect on outcomes and identify opportunities to improve systems, solutions, and processes; you can apply learnings and institutionalize change.
AI Leverage — You use AI tools to accelerate personal productivity and team output. You identify opportunities to embed AI into products and workflows to improve user experience and business performance.
Documentation & Knowledge Sharing — You produce clear, concise documentation that scales knowledge across an organization, e.g. technical designs, product specs, postmortems, status updates.
We use a modern, cloud-based stack. Experience with the following technologies is helpful, but not required:
We care far more about your ability to learn, adapt, and apply sound engineering principles than experience with any specific tools.
