Who you are

Metropolis is seeking an enthusiastic and driven Senior Counsel ready to lead legal support for one of our regions, working closely with both the Revenue and Operations management and their teams, and collaborating with the other members of the legal team.

What you'll do

• Provide comprehensive legal support to one or more business regions or practice groups
• Act as a proactive and trusted business partner, offering legal and business counsel to stakeholders on a wide variety of contract-related issues, compliance matters, and risk assessments
• Work closely with business teams to develop and execute legal strategies that protect and advance the company’s operations
• Develop a deep understanding of our cutting-edge technology business and the broader urban mobility industry
• Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of commercial contracts, including complex software as a service (SaaS) agreements, client agreements, procurement agreements, information technology agreements, government contracts, commercial leasing agreements, and consulting agreements
• Coordinate resolution of business disputes and manage outside counsel as needed
• Provide essential support to the Vice President, Associate General Counsel and other attorneys within the department

What we're looking for

• Law degree and currently licensed or has eligibility to be licensed to practice law in either Illinois, Tennessee, or New York
• 7+ years of progressive work experience in a corporate law department or a business/transactional practice group of a law firm
• Extensive experience with a wide variety of commercial contracts, including technology, government, and procurement agreements
• Hardworking, detail-oriented, and enthusiastic professional who thrives in a collaborative and close-knit team environment
• Ability to work effectively under pressure, prioritize multiple tasks, and meet tight deadlines
• Strong practical decision-making and problem-solving skills
• Exceptional transactional and legal writing skills
• Ability to quickly identify and grasp complex legal issues and communicate key issues clearly and concisely to colleagues and business partners

While not required, these are a plus:

• Demonstrated expertise in drafting and negotiating Software as a Service (SaaS) contracts or commercial leases
• Prior in-house legal experience

Our corporate team members hold to our office-first model, which requires employees to be on-site at least four days a week, fostering organic interactions that spark creativity and connection.

The anticipated base salary for this position is $175,000.00 USD to $185,000.00 USD annually. The actual base salary offered is determined by a number of variables, including, as appropriate, the applicant's qualifications for the position, years of relevant experience, distinctive skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location of residence and/or place of employment. Who you are

At Metropolis, we are revolutionizing the way people and cities interact through innovative technologies. As a Senior Manager of Government and Community Relations in the Northeast, you will play a pivotal role in shaping public policy for an emerging industry and fostering relationships with key government and community stakeholders. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Government Relations, you will support the launch of a new team, drive community outreach strategies, and partner across departments to advance our policy goals in key states and municipalities.

What you'll do

• Establish and nurture relationships with key government officials, community leaders, and stakeholders
• Develop and implement a community outreach plan aligned with Metropolis’ strategic goals
• Review and analyze public policies in collaboration with the legal team and other departments, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives
• Partner with and manage contract lobbyists to execute policy initiatives effectively
• Ability to travel as needed; approximately 25% of travel expected for this position

What we're looking for

• Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, communications, or a related field
• 5+ years of experience in government or community affairs, ideally in a fast-paced, innovative, and policy-rich environment
• Proven expertise in community engagement and relationship management
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
• A self-starter with the ability to navigate ambiguity and drive initiatives independently

While not required, these are a plus:

• Industry experience in transportation, infrastructure, artificial intelligence, or privacy policy is a plus

The anticipated base salary for this position is $170,000.00 USD to $180,000.00 USD annually. The actual base salary offered is determined by a number of variables, including, as appropriate, the applicant's qualifications for the position, years of relevant experience, distinctive skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location of residence and/or place of employment.
