What You’ll Do 

• Direct healthcare-focused civil engineering projects from concept through completion, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, healthcare codes and client expectations 
• Develop and implement strategies to expand the firm’s healthcare market presence, leveraging industry knowledge, market trends, and client/architect relationships 
• Partner with architects, healthcare administrators, mechanical engineers, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver facilities that enhance patient care, operational efficiency, and sustainability 
• Manage project budgets, schedules, staffing, and quality control to deliver successful outcomes on time and within scope 
• Lead an engineering team to execute healthcare projects, fostering professional growth and technical excellence 
• Lead permitting efforts, working with local agencies and municipalities to ensure timely approvals and compliance with applicable regulations. Address agency comments and facilitate site permitting processes. 
• Coordinate and collaborate with internal disciplines, technical specialists, and subconsultants to deliver quality outcomes. Represent the firm at conferences, client meetings, and community engagements to strengthen partnerships, visibility, and thought leadership. 
• Identify and mitigate project risks, ensuring compliance with environmental, safety, and healthcare facility standards. 

What You’ll Bring 

• Four-year bachelor’s degree from an accredited program in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Biological and Agricultural Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, or related field required 
• EI required; PE or on track to obtaining PE strongly preferred 
• 10+ years of civil engineering experience with significant exposure to healthcare or campus projects 
• Proven track record managing complex, multidisciplinary projects and leading diverse teams. 
• Strong knowledge of healthcare facility design standards, site development, utilities, stormwater management, and environmental considerations 
• Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills to engage stakeholders and build trust. 
• Experience working with multidisciplinary architect teams, including building and site mechanical engineers. 
• Experience in various project delivery models including traditional design-bid-build, design-build, CMAR, etc. 
• Ability to identify market opportunities, develop business strategies, and contribute to firm-wide growth initiatives.

Position Purpose
To build and operate a profitable Water / Wastewater practice area within the Water Resources department of McAdams.  This position is to develop a team to execute water / wastewater projects including technical design, financial management, City/State/Federal approvals, and construction, while exceeding client expectations. The position is responsible for the development of this practice area in all McAdams metro locations.

Essential Functions + Responsibilities

• Responsibilities include: Talent Acquisition, Development and Retention, Project Delivery, Business Development, Financial Performance, and conformance to McAdams Company Goals and Values.
• Lead a production team, provide resource management, resolve complex technical problems,
  coach, train, and mentor design professionals, and work collaboratively with all team
  members on all aspects of project execution
• Coordinate and oversee resource scheduling to ensure workload and deadlines are managed
  effectively
• Establish, promote, and ensure quality on all projects and work performed by group staff
• Develop proposals or contracts that ensure the contract scope is adequate for the project, provide the desired level of profitability, and ensure that the project schedule is viable
• Understand business initiatives and concerns of current and prospective clients to recognize and promote new opportunities and cross-sell other services provided by the firm
• Responsible for the development of short-term and long-term strategic market sector plans for the Water / Wastewater practice area
• Responsible for the profitable operation of Water / Wastewater Practice area of Water Resources at McAdams
• Representation of McAdams at industry events, at professional organizations and conferences (regional and national), development as a thought leader within these organizations.

Qualifications

• Four-year college degree (B.S.) in engineering
• PE required
• 10+ years of related experience and/or training
• Highly motivated to develop a Water / Wastewater practice
• Possess technical expertise in civil engineering as it applies to Water / Wastewater projects
• Demonstrated leadership abilities with the ability to carry a project through the design process
  independently and within a team framework
• Demonstrated ability to independently manage and grow key relationships
• Proven knowledge of budget impacts and profit and revenue expectations
• Demonstrated ability to think critically while preparing and executing strategic plans for growth
• Proven relationships within the community that are of value in the development of a Water / Wastewater practice

Key Responsibilities 

• Lead site/civil design for data centers and other complex developments, including institutional, commercial, and mixed-use projects. 
• Direct all phases of design—site layout, grading, drainage, utilities/infrastructure, and erosion & sediment control—from concept through completion. 
• Manage budgets, schedules, risk, and deliverables, ensuring alignment with client expectations and McAdams’ performance standards. 
• Prepare and/or review technical deliverables, including feasibility studies, stormwater management plans, utility reports, specifications, and related documentation. 
• Build trusted client partnerships and proactively identify new opportunities—especially within the hyperscale and colocation data center market 
• Lead permitting efforts, working with local agencies and municipalities to ensure timely approvals and compliance with applicable regulations. Address agency comments and facilitate site permitting processes.
• Support proposal development, interviews, and strategic growth initiatives to expand market presence. 
• Mentor and develop team members, fostering a high-performance, collaborative culture. 
• Perform additional responsibilities as needed in support of project and firm success. 

Skills + Experience  

• Four-year bachelor’s degree from an accredited program in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Biological and Agricultural Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, or related field required EI required; PE or on track to obtain PE strongly preferred  
• Demonstrated success delivering hyperscale and colocation data center projects, from early planning and pre-design through detailed design and construction support. 
• 10+ years of site/civil engineering experience, including a strong data center portfolio. 
• Energized by traveling to build the practices and advance projects. 
• Strong working knowledge of local land use regulations, entitlement, and permitting processes. 
• Excellent client-facing communication, relationship management, and business development capabilities. 
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D. 
• Expertise in stormwater management, hydrologic/hydraulic modeling, and SWPPP compliance. 
• Exceptional technical writing and presentation skills. 
• Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and team development experience. 
• Professional organization involvement.
