In order to support our goals for safe operations and continued autonomy development, we are looking for a manager for the autonomy support team. The autonomy support team is responsible for transforming data from the field into meaningful data such as operational issues, and further defining them into unique measurements to identify and track moving forward. The support team identifies the operational issues and triages them to the root cause to aid the site lifecycle managers the ability to lead development teams to solve operational issues and drive the roadmap. 

As the fleet expands and the volume of driving data generated by field software scales, the team’s current processes are no longer built to support this growth. This role is a transformation hire — responsible for redesigning how field data is ingested, triaged, justified, and tracked end-to-end through to verified resolution in the field.

Job Summary

The Site Autonomy Manager’s primary role is to oversee and support the operational fleet in their respective site location and provide multi-site support as needed. May Mobility is seeking a visionary and experienced Director of Predictive Simulation to lead our efforts in rapidly deploying iterative improvements to our autonomous driver stack. As a key member of our leadership team, you will direct and oversee innovative the design, development, and evolution of a comprehensive simulated test suite.  This suite will be used to accurately predict the behavior of May’s AVs in a variety of Operational Design Domains (ODDs).

Critical Functions Overseen:

• Curation and evolution of a large suite of simulated tests
• Categorization of tests such that results can be rapidly interpreted
• Continuous improvement of tests in the virtual test suite
• Measure and maximize the coverage of the test suite(s) and other related artifacts to minimize test escapes and surprises.

• Define a testing taxonomy, specification, and roadmap, to efficiently and incrementally build and improve the test suite.

Qualifications:

• Educational Background: PhD or Master's degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, Robotics, Electrical Engineering.
• Professional Experience: 10+ years of experience in autonomous vehicle technology or related fields, with a strong track record of leadership and innovation.
• Leadership Experience: 5+ years of experience managing large technical teams (50+ engineers), with a focus on mentorship, team development, and fostering a collaborative work environment.
• Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of AV testing, use of simulation in verification and validation, and data science.
• Project Delivery: Proven ability to deliver complex technical projects on time and within budget, with a focus on achieving strategic objectives and measurable outcomes.
• Communication Skills: Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to diverse audiences, including non-technical stakeholders, partners, and industry leaders.

Job Summary

May Mobility is entering an exciting phase of growth as we expand our first-of-its-kind autonomous shuttle and mobility services across the nation. Launched in 2017 with a strong team of experienced roboticists and software engineers with decades of experience fielding robotic systems in the wild, May Mobility is looking to expand its team of robotics engineers with a background in robotics or autonomous vehicles. 

Essential Responsibilities

You will have an opportunity to independently impact our approach to solving the most interesting problems facing AV’s today, while operating live in the wild. 

• Work independently with cross functional teams to develop software and system requirements
• Design, implement, and test-state-of-the-art robotics software in C/C++ 
• Lead team code quality activities including design and code reviews 
• Track and Trend technical performance of the system in the field 
• Provide technical guidance to Technical Support Team on issue diagnosis and resolution

Skills and Abilities

Success in this role typically requires the following competencies:

• In-depth understanding of one or more of the following: behavior planning, decision making under uncertainty, path planning, probabilistic reasoning, prediction, machine learning, trajectory generation, controls or localization
• Awareness of the state of the art in the field, and be able to translate novel ideas into relevant solutions at May
• Ability to understand complex code bases and identify long term architectural improvements
• Ability to provide individual and team mentorship, including technical leadership for complex projects 
• Ability to collaborate cross functionally with adjacent teams such as perception and controls
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences, including stakeholders, executives, and customers

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates most successful in this role typically hold the following qualifications or comparable knowledge or experience:

Required

• 10+ years of industry experience working on real-world robot systems including implementing at least two commercial projects working at a systems-level, delivering critical functions that make a robot work successfully in the field.
• Bachelor's degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a field that requires a strong mathematical and/or engineering foundation (e.g. physics, aerospace engineering)
• Experience developing and deploying capabilities for robot behavior planning, decision making under uncertainty, path planning, probabilistic reasoning, prediction, machine learning, trajectory generation, controls and/or localization
• Strong programming skills in C/C++
• Expertise with software development in a Linux environment
• Familiarity with standard development tools such as git, valgrind, and gdb 

Desirable

• Masters or PhD in Robotics, Computer Science, or Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a field that requires a strong mathematical and/or engineering foundation (e.g. physics, aerospace engineering)
• Strong background in one of the robotics areas discussed above as demonstrated by developing and delivering to fielded robots multiple capabilities that solve critical problems in controls and motion planning
• Demonstrated ability to mentor and support more junior engineers in learning and contributing to robotics development and testing
• Strong programming skills in C, software development in a Linux environment
