Jensen Hughes is seeking highly experienced and motivated Fire Alarm System Designers / Consultants to join our team. This role will support a fast-paced project through consulting, design, review, and field oversight activities at a large semiconductor facility in North Phoenix. The position requires technical depth, sound judgment, and the ability to interface effectively with clients.
This role is responsible for the design, evaluation, and consulting of fire alarm and mass notification systems across a variety of project types. The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise, strong knowledge of applicable codes and standards, and the ability to lead projects and collaborate effectively with clients and multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities
Design, Consulting, and Technical Oversight
- Lead and execute fire alarm and/or mass notification system design from concept through construction, including system layouts, device placement, riser diagrams, sequences of operation, and calculations (battery, voltage drop, etc.).
- Develop detailed, code-compliant fire alarm drawings, including shop drawings, specifications, and technical reports using REVIT, AutoCAD, and/or similar design industry tools.
- Review architectural and engineering drawings to ensure life safety and fire code compliance.
Project Execution and Field Activities
- Act as the owner’s representative for fire alarm systems during design, construction, and commissioning phases.
- Conduct site assessments and field surveys to evaluate existing conditions and fire alarm installations.
- Prepare and review design, shop drawing, and construction submittals for compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements.
- Support testing, commissioning, and acceptance activities, including preparation of test plans, witnessing tests, and documenting results.
Client, Contractor, and Team Coordination
- Coordinate and collaborate with engineers, architects, contractors, authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs), and internal project teams.
- Interface directly with clients to communicate technical findings, recommendations, and project status.
- Manage technical aspects of projects, including schedules, workload planning, and adherence to approved scopes of work.
Quality, Compliance, and Leadership
- Stay current on applicable codes, standards, and emerging technologies (e.g., NFPA 72, NFPA 70, IBC).
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff, including support for NICET development and training.
Minimum Requirements
- Five (5) or more years of progressive experience in fire alarm system design, consulting, or inspection.
- Proficiency with REVIT, AutoCAD, or other industry design software.
Preferred Qualifications
- NICET certification in Fire Alarm Systems preferred; NICET Level II or higher is strongly preferred.
- Proficiency with ASPIRE™ software is a plus.
- Strong working knowledge of NFPA codes, life safety standards, and local jurisdictional requirements.
- Experience with mass notification systems and integrated life safety solutions preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technically sound design strategies.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting client and schedule commitments.

- Candidates with significant industry experience in fire alarm system design, inspection, or code consulting are desired.

Key Responsibilities
Design, Consulting, and Technical Oversight
- Lead or support the design and layout of automatic fire sprinkler systems for a variety of facility types in accordance with NFPA standards, local codes, and project requirements
- Generate fire suppression specifications for water-based fire protection systems
- Perform or review hydraulic calculations, material take-offs, and system sizing, including fire pumps and controllers
- Review, evaluate, and prepare sprinkler, fire pump, and/or special suppression system shop drawing submittal packages
Project Execution and Field Activities
- Act as the owner’s representative for fire protection systems during design, construction, and commissioning phases
- Conduct field surveys, inspections, and regular site walks to verify installation quality, fire safety, and code compliance
- Support testing, commissioning, system acceptance, and emergent site needs, including witnessing tests and providing code interpretations
- Coordinate with AHJs to support permitting, reviews, and project approvals
Client, Contractor, and Team Coordination
- Provide technical consulting and guidance to clients, project managers, contractors, architects, and engineers
- Plan, direct, or execute fire protection–related engineering activities with a high level of contractor engagement
- Assess, review, and approve contractor bids, change orders, and work costs related to fire protection systems
- Prepare, present, and deliver clear, technically sound reports and recommendations to clients
Quality, Compliance, and Leadership
- Support companywide QA/QC reviews to ensure consistency, accuracy, and compliance with codes and standards
- Mentor and support the professional development of junior designers, engineers, and consultants, as appropriate to level
Minimum Requirements
- Five (5) or more years of experience in fire protection system design or consulting, with emphasis on automatic sprinkler systems and fire pump design
- Proficiency with industry-standard design and calculation tools such as AutoCAD, REVIT, HydraCAD, SprinkCAD, or similar software
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong working knowledge of applicable codes and standards, including NFPA 13, 14, 20, and/or 25.

Jensen Hughes has a new job opportunity for a Fire Protection Engineer to work on our ongoing project at the Phoenix area TSMC facility. We are looking for an experienced Engineer or Consultant to work in all aspects of fire protection engineering, including building code consulting, fire protection systems, and fire protection strategies.
The successful applicant will have a well-rounded background in fire protection and code consulting and possess strong analytical and creative thinking skills. The role will involve many aspects of fire protection engineering with a focus on Building Code and Fire Code consulting. The position will coordinate and conduct building plan reviews, interpret the building codes, develop alternative solutions, prepare building design reports and coordinate with fire protection engineering design teams. The candidate will be responsible for the review and implementation of fire protection strategies and will coordinate on all matters with design teams and authorities having jurisdiction.
Responsibilities:
- Perform fire and life safety code consulting tasks related to Group H-5 semiconductor facilities
- Assist with the development of alternate methods of design and/or code modification submittals
- Assist with hazardous materials consulting activities
- Perform site surveys
- Assist with fire and life safety system inspection and testing activities
- Coordinate closely with design teams and authorities having jurisdiction
- Contribute to complex, high-impact project delivery
Minimum Requirements
- Five (5) plus years of experience in code consulting and developing performance-based strategies in a project design environment is preferred
- Experience in developing building code concepts and equivalencies, conducting building plan reviews, and conducting field reviews/inspections
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Engineering, Architecture, or related field

Jensen Hughes, a worldwide Consulting, Engineering and Compliance firm is looking for a motivated and well-spoken inside sales representative to join our global Fire and Life Safety team. in our Columbia, MD office location and cover the Mid-Atlantic Region of the South. The candidate will be responsible for identifying and developing new leads/opportunities, communicating with clients, understanding their needs, connecting those needs to our services, and ensuring a smooth sales process. This candidate is expected to be able to retain long term relationship clients while expanding services, close sales, and meet sales targets.
Our goal is to hire a candidate that is eager to expand our Fire and Life Safety service lines through existing and new clients, cross selling additional services, and identify additional opportunities for global company wide growth. The candidate will make use of skills in communication and sales to highlight the advantages of our services in numerous vertical markets.
This will be a full time salaried position.
Responsibilities:
- Develop sales opportunities by exploring and identifying potential clients, soliciting new clients, building rapport with clients, following up on leads and opportunities
- Conveying clear and detailed explanations of our services.
- Collaborating with technical colleagues in preparing proposals and members of our marketing team preparing qualifications.
- Communicating with existing and potential clients and making outbound calls to potential customers.
- Responding to customers' questions, coordinating with technical colleagues, and sending additional information as needed
- Creating/maintaining relationships, while managing existing clients accounts, support retaining existing services for renewal, and identify value added opportunities.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree preferred, and/or two (2) plus years’ experience as an Inside Sales Representative.

- Experience with Microsoft Dynamix preferred.
- Experience with government contract tracking systems such as GovWin, Deltek, or similar platforms used to monitor and research federal, state, or local government opportunities preferred.
- Experience working for a professional services firm preferred.
