We are looking for an Embedded Software Engineer for our Embedded team with a user focused mindset and strong technical background. Our embedded team is the essential component that ties software, hardware and electronics together that pushes the limits of 3D printing. They are responsible for designing and implementing our firmware. 

**This is a Hybrid role which requires weekly presence in our Budapest office.

The Job:

• Design, build, test, and ship development tools and prototype code for your fellow R&D engineers working on new, unlaunched Formlabs products. 
• Design, build, test and ship code for new printer features to the tens of thousands of Formlabs devices in the field
• Ensure code re-use with a strong focus on maintainability, testing and CI
• Collaborate with different stakeholders (product managers, designers) to ensure we build the right features for our customers, existing and future. 

You:

• Have written code that lives on hardware products 
• Program with modern languages used for embedded software stacks, ideally in C++, and/or Python
• Easily implement common embedded software architecture patterns for things like filtering, control loops, and remote procedure calls
• Are willing to take initiative and learn from failures
• Distill complex things simply when communicating with non-software stakeholders.

The Job:

• Build and deliver brand new mobile application(s) 
• Guide foundational technical decisions
• Apply modern software design processes, tools, and testing methodologies to deliver robust, high-quality software
• ​​Write highly maintainable and well-tested code while developing features end-to-end
• Contribute to improving the architecture and code quality of the application
• You will work closely with experienced product managers, to implement and launch features that address the needs of our customers

You:

• Bsc degree or equivalent in Computer Science
• 5+ years of professional mobile application development, React Native experience
• Hands-on experience with both native (iOS/Android) and cross-platform (React Native) development
• High degree of autonomy with the ability to make complex product and architectural decisions—and confidently communicate and justify them to leadership
• Excellent collaboration skills and ability to work effectively across departments (e.g., Product, Design, Cloud, Hardware, QA)
• Have a portfolio of captivating and relevant reference projects of delivered mobile applications

Bonus Skills:

• Passion for 3D printing and emerging technologies
• Experience in a fast-growing startup environment

As an Embedded Software Engineer at Formlabs, you’ll collaborate with electrical engineers, systems engineers, and the rest of our software team to build, shape, and define our embedded systems.

The Job:

• Work with a small, multi-disciplinary development team to architect and build software for execution on bare metal, RTOS, or Embedded Linux operating systems
• Provide technical leadership on embedded software design and development
• Write robust and reliable software that will be shipped to thousands of machines worldwide
• Implement best practices for clean, well-documented code
• Deliver impactful features to our users by releasing stable firmware updates to thousands of machines
• Assess third party and open source software
• Make engineering tradeoff decisions and present them to members inside and outside the team
• Participate in developing a long-term technology roadmap for the team and company

You:

• Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience
• Mastery of C and modern C++, as well as comfortable with Python
• Have developed and received feedback on software that was delivered to thousands of customer machines
• Ready to collaborate with a wide range of technical disciplines including Electrical and Mechanical Engineering
• Familiarity with inter-process communication (IPC) middleware for embedded software services
• Proficiently in embedded software development for RTOS and Embedded Linux
• Experience in hardware bring-up using interfaces like ADC, GPIO, SPI, I2C, etc.
• Experience with Software Development processes including source control, bug tracking, and design documentation
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to present complex technical ideas 

Bonus Skills:

• Experience with any of the following: Linux Kernel, BSP (Board Support Packages), Yocto, OpenEmbedded, Graphics, and Display Drivers.
• Experience with concurrent applications in Real Time Operating Systems
• Experience using software infrastructure tools such as Docker, Git, CMake
• Familiarity with ESP32, STM32, PIC, or NXP microcontrollers
• Familiarity with creating robust communication and networking protocols
• Security and cryptography
• Passion and experience in 3D printing
