About the Role:

The Ernesta business technology team builds the technology solutions that power the end-to-end business operation of an industry-leading custom rug purchasing experience. This includes a custom-built order management system, manufacturing workflow tools, and delivery management systems. These systems work together to power a self-service-first purchasing experience that exceeds customer expectations before and after their rug purchase.

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will be a foundational member of the engineering team building Ernesta’s in-house order management system from the ground up. You will own the backend architecture for transactional systems that manage order lifecycles, fulfillment workflows, inventory, and integrations with Shopify, Salesforce, and third-party logistics providers.  You will be designing and building the core systems that run the business.

What You’ll Do:

• Design, build, and maintain backend services for Ernesta’s custom order management system using Node.js and PostgreSQL
• Own the data model and transactional logic for core business entities: orders, line items, fulfillments, inventory, customers, and product SKUs
• Build and maintain integrations with external systems including Shopify, Salesforce, and third-party logistics and fulfillment providers
• Implement order lifecycle workflows: creation, confirmation, production, fulfillment, shipping, delivery, and returns
• Design RESTful APIs that serve internal tools and connect to the broader e-commerce ecosystem
• Collaborate closely with the Business Systems Product Manager to translate domain model specifications and business rules into reliable, performant backend systems
• Translate product specifications — including entity definitions, state machines, and business rules — into physical database schemas, migration strategies, and API contracts
• Ensure data integrity across systems, defining source-of-truth sync logic and integration contracts between the ERP and external platforms
• Write automated tests and contribute to CI/CD pipelines to maintain code quality and deployment reliability

Qualifications Include:

• 5+ years of backend software engineering experience with strong proficiency in Node.js and relational database such as PostgreSQL
• Experience designing and building transactional data models for systems that manage orders, inventory, fulfillment, or similar operational workflows
• Hands-on experience building and maintaining integrations with external platforms (e.g., external APIs, payment processors)
• Strong understanding of relational database design: normalization, indexing, constraints, and migration strategies
• Experience with event-driven architecture patterns (message queues, webhooks, pub/sub) for system-to-system communication
• Experience building and documenting RESTful APIs
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS or GCP), containerization (Docker), and CI/CD tooling
• Ability to work autonomously in a small team environment where you own significant portions of the system end to end

As a Business Systems Product Manager, you will own the product vision, roadmap, and functional specifications for Ernesta’s in-house order management system. This is a custom-built system, not an off-the-shelf platform — which means you will be defining the domain model, writing detailed product specs, and making build-vs-buy decisions that directly shape what the system can do. You will serve as the bridge between business operations (sales, fulfillment, manufacturing, customer experience) and the engineering team, ensuring that every feature built faithfully represents how the business actually works while being mindful of future expansion.

What You’ll Do:

• Own the product roadmap, prioritization, and feature backlog for Ernesta’s order management system and manufacturing system
• Translate business goals and operational milestones into a sequenced delivery plan and prioritize features and capabilities based on business impact
• Functional owner of the order management system and manufacturing system that drives order allocation, logistics routing, and production manufacturing flow
• Partner with business leaders to define measurable outcomes for each product initiative (e.g., reduction in manual fulfillment effort, improvement in order accuracy, faster time-to-ship) and hold the roadmap accountable to those outcomes.
• Create rough wireframes and UX flows for internal tool interfaces, collaborating with engineering to define screen layouts, navigation, and user workflows before development begins
• Review engineering Technical Design Documents to ensure the physical data model and API contracts faithfully represent business  process and future evolution

Qualifications Include:

• Proven track record of sequencing and delivering product roadmaps against business milestones and ability to make tradeoff decisions about scope, timing, and depth to ensure business hits its operational and financial goals.
• Experience writing detailed functional specifications for transactional systems (orders, inventory, fulfillment, manufacturing) where the domain model directly determines product capabilities
• Domain expertise in manufacturing, fulfillment, ERP systems, or e-commerce operations
• Experience researching and evaluating off-the-shelf platforms such as NetSuite, Dynamics, Sage and making informed build-vs-buy tradeoff decisions

About the Role

Ernesta is seeking an Operations Analyst to support inventory planning, operational financial analysis, logistics data support, and new product launch execution across the Operations function. This role sits at the intersection of inventory strategy, working capital discipline, operational execution, and data infrastructure.

This is a highly analytical and cross-functional role suited for someone who thrives in both structured financial analysis and dynamic operational environments — able to translate data into decisions, align stakeholders across functions, and build scalable processes that support growth.

Inventory & Sample Planning

• Maintain day-to-day sample planning tools and incorporate the latest forecasts to drive replenishment decisions; proactively flag and reorder samples selling faster than planned, accounting for wide variation in supplier lead times.
• Generate clear recommended actions for each backorder; partner closely with the Customer Experience team to provide the information they need to have informed conversations with customers
• Track backorder trends by SKU to identify chronic supply issues and feed that signal back into inventory planning and purchasing decisions
• Support additional operational, analytical, and cross-functional initiatives as business needs evolve.
  
  

New Product Launch

• Manage the launch playbook cross-functionally, tracking open items across merchandising, supply planning, and operations and ensuring each workstream hits its milestones
• Execute all system changes required to support launch: SKU setup in the WMS, OMS, and Shopify
• Work directly with merchandising on last-minute changes — understanding how late updates (style changes, size additions, color drops) cascade through the launch plan and adjusting execution accordingly
• Ensure sample materials are ordered and available ahead of launch, accounting for supplier lead times
• Flag launch blockers early, drive resolution, and maintain clear visibility into what is at risk and what needs escalation

Logistics Support

• Implement carrier territory changes across all relevant systems when hub assignments, zip code coverage, or carrier networks shift
• Maintain carrier routing data — hub-to-zip mappings, service zone files, and coverage logic — and identify orders routed to the wrong hub before they are acted on
• Build and maintain carrier performance KPIs: on-time rates, exception rates, cost per shipment, and other metrics used to evaluate carrier health and inform contract decisions.

Operations Financial Reporting

• Collect all data required for EOM close across carriers and cost categories
• Flow processed data through all relevant dashboards and systems
• Identify and flag discrepancies and resolve or escalate before close is finalized
• Deliver a monthly readout to senior leadership covering total costs by carrier, record volumes, key anomalies, and open items carrying into the next month
• Support the Finance and Operations with operational financial reporting; analyze material utilization, yield, and cost trends to identify margin and efficiency opportunities
• Assist in budgeting and forecasting processes for inventory investment and operational expenses

Qualifications

• 3–6 years of experience in operations planning, inventory management, supply chain, or operations finance
• Strong analytical and financial modeling capabilities; demonstrated experience managing inventory strategy in a multi-SKU environment
• Experience supporting month-end close, operational financial reporting, and budgeting processes
• Proficiency with Airtable, Sigma, Shopify, or similar platforms; comfort working across multiple systems simultaneously

We’re looking for an experienced Inventory Planning Lead to build and own our inventory planning function. This person will establish the frameworks, processes, and tools that guide how we plan purchases, manage inventory investment, and scale our operations as the business grows.

This is a high-impact, foundational role reporting directly to the CFO. You will play a key role in shaping how Ernesta manages inventory and working capital while partnering closely with leadership, merchandising, and our external manufacturing partners.

What You’ll Do

Build Ernesta’s inventory planning function

• Design and implement the company’s inventory planning framework, including inventory targets, replenishment strategy, stocking model and purchasing cadence (managing monthly open to buy process)
• Establish scalable processes, reporting, and tools that bring structure and visibility to inventory management as the business grows
• Develop planning models that inform purchasing decisions and help optimize inventory investment and working capital

Translate demand signals into purchasing strategy

• Partner closely with Ernesta’s demand team to translate demand forecasts into inventory plans and purchasing recommendations
• Define inventory targets and purchasing quantities across our product portfolio
• Work with the CFO to align inventory investment with company financial goals and growth plans
• Establish guidelines for reorder timing, buy depth, and inventory coverage to ensure the right inventory is available at the right time

Work directly with manufacturing partners

• Collaborate with vendors to align production planning with expected demand and inventory targets
• Manage purchasing cadence and production timelines while accounting for product-specific lead times and manufacturing constraints
• Proactively identify supply risks or constraints and recommend solutions to maintain product availability

Drive data-driven decision making

• Establish and track key inventory metrics such as inventory turns, weeks of supply, stockouts, and forecast accuracy
• Analyze trends and performance to improve planning accuracy and inventory efficiency
• Provide clear insights to leadership that support better operational and financial decision-making

Own, execute and scale the function

• Serve as Ernesta’s internal expert on inventory planning and purchasing strategy

What We’re Looking For

• 6-8+ years of experience in inventory planning, merchandise planning, or demand planning within a retail or consumer brand
