Job Description

At Cobblestone Energy we are on a mission to build the most advanced European electricity trading and analytics platform, with our technology being used by our teams of commercial traders to create significant value. Responsibilities

• Contribute to software projects that support critical business operations
• Collaborate with engineers and commercial team members to improve internal tools
• Write clean, maintainable code and assist with debugging and testing
• Participate in design discussions and code reviews
• Continuously build your technical and domain knowledge
• Leverage modern AI coding assistants and LLM tools to accelerate development cycles, refactor legacy code, and write comprehensive tests.
• Experiment with and integrate AI capabilities (e.g., APIs, vector databases) to enhance internal tools and platform scalability.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
• 0 to 1 year of professional experience in software development (internships and academic projects included)
• Strong understanding of core programming concepts, data structures, and algorithms
• Exposure to web technologies, APIs, or databases through coursework, internships, or personal projects
• Demonstrated ability to use AI tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, LLMs) to accelerate problem-solving and automate repetitive coding tasks.
• Familiarity with integrating Third-Party APIs (including OpenAI/Anthropic) or deploying open-source models is a strong plus.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support traders within your designated market team to develop and refine trading strategies
• Analyse market fundamentals including supply, demand, pricing behaviour, flows and regulatory updates relevant to your market
• Build and maintain forecasting models to support short term or long term market views
• Prepare clear market summaries, dashboards and presentations for internal stakeholders
• Monitor real time news, fundamentals and data to inform daily trading decisions
• Build and maintain personal AI-driven workflows to scrape, summarise, and structure vast amounts of unstructured market news and reports.
• Innovate on traditional reporting by automating dashboard updates and report generation using Python scripting or low-code AI tools.
• Collaborate with trading, risk and analytics teams to support commercial objectives
• Contribute to research on trading and hedging opportunities within your market
• Assist in creating analytical tools, dashboards and market views in partnership with data scientists and technology teams

Your background:

• Bachelor’s degree (or near completion) or master’s degree in mathematics, Physics, or related quantitative disciplines. We are primarily interested in candidates with strong analytical depth and structural thinking, regardless of whether they come from a purely technical or theoretical background.
• Exposure to at least one programming language (e.g. Python, C++, Java, or similar)
• Demonstrated proficiency in using AI tools to convert unstructured market signals (news, PDFs, web data) into structured, actionable insights.
• A "Builder" mindset: Experience creating small automations or scripts that eliminate manual data entry or repetitive analysis tasks.
• Understanding of basic concepts in data structures, algorithms and computational thinking

• Strong sense of ownership and responsibility
• Desire to grow within a high-performance, intellectually demanding environment
• Fluency in English, both written and spoken.

Key Responsibilities:

• Data Preparation: Collect, clean, and structure large datasets from market, fundamental, and operational sources
• Forecasting & Modeling: Develop and validate predictive models (e.g. wind generation, demand) to support trading strategies
• Strategy Research: Prototype, back-test, and refine data-driven trading ideas; collaborate with analytics and development teams to productionise solutions
• Infrastructure: Build and maintain data pipelines, dashboards, and automated tooling to streamline workflows
• AI-Accelerated Workflows: Utilise LLMs and agentic frameworks to accelerate exploratory data analysis (EDA), automate data cleaning pipelines, and generate synthetic data for model robustification.

Your background:

• Bachelor's or master’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field
• Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python and R
• Experience with data analysis and manipulation tools such as Pandas, NumPy, and SQL
• Knowledge of data visualization tools such as Matplotlib and Seaborn
• Experience programmatically integrating LLMs (via APIs, LangChain, or Python scripts) into data pipelines rather than just using chat interfaces.
• Proven ability to build custom "Agents" or automated workflows that interpret unstructured data or reason through multi-step problems.
