The Database of Human Genotypes and Phenotypes (dbGaP) Access team is responsible for developing and maintaining technologies which manage the approval and access to data within the system. The Access team is currently engaged in a UI modernization project encompassing the data access user interfaces, public web site, and approval workflow for the dbGaP systems.
The UI / UX Developer will work as part of the development team to develop and implement new Python and Django UI components and user facing applications defined by the design team into the development, testing, and production environments for the product. This position will also be responsible for collaborating with the development team to integrate these user facing applications into the existing backend components and API’s.
In this role, the developer will be expected to become familiar with the USWDS styling guidelines and leverage best practices to implement styling into the web UI applications. The developer will need to become familiar with NCBI web/application architecture patterns, produce CSS supplements to augment existing NCBI and USWDS CSS templates and produce documentation detailing the applications user workflow.

Duties & Responsibilities
• Support internal staff having desktop system and application issues via online ticketing systems
• Work in a dynamic environment supporting 700 users in a Windows OS based environment
• Help desk phone support and in person support
• Imaging new machines, installing and updating software
• Assist with the patching process as determined by the patch coordinator
• Remediate vulnerabilities flagged by the security team
• Prepare old computers for surplus
• Provide OS X support to NCBI's internal developers and researchers
• Provision and deploy Mac endpoints for users
• Assist with deploying applications, updates (patch management), packaging, OS upgrades, hardware upgrades, etc.
• Help integrate macOS with network storage (SMB, NFS) and internal/external sites, including troubleshooting

• 3+ years experience
• High School Diploma/GED with either technical training/certifications, or equivalent experience
• Basic troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
• Good communication, documentation, and customer service skills
• Experience with basic Unix command Line: file system navigation, ssh, rsync, chown, chmod, etc.
• Understanding of Apple technologies: packages, Installer, Device Enrollment Program, Apple Business Manager, Volume Purchase Program, Xcode and command line tool deployment, et. al.

The National Library of Medicine (NLM) Health Data Standards (HDS) program maintains highly utilized terminology and knowledge products, including the Value Set Authority Center (VSAC). VSAC and other HDS services support billions of API queries annually and are widely integrated across industry through FHIR Implementation Guides, terminology bindings, and the VSAC FHIR API.
While FHIR API support exists today, implementers regularly request clarification on VSAC’s alignment to the latest HL7 FHIR specifications, terminology‑services best practices, and emerging industry implementation patterns.
NLM is seeking a FHIR API Subject Matter Expert (SME) to conduct a systematic assessment of the VSAC FHIR API, identify gaps relative to current standards, and provide clear, actionable recommendations.
