The Role

At Lucas Horsfall, an audit senior is responsible for detailed assurance and audit procedures for clients in a variety of industries. The position involves researching and analyzing financial statements and audit related issues and preparing thorough and accurate audit documentation in accordance with US GAAP, IFRS, PCAOB and firm standards. This position will train and develop staff. This role will be achieved in a hybrid environment out of our Pasadena, CA or Irvine, CA office location.

Key Responsibilities

• Performs field work on financial statement audit and accounting engagements.
• Monitors progress of engagements in relation to budgets and due dates.
• Directs the work of staff assigned to client engagements.
• Assists with engagement planning.
• Trains, supervises, and develops staff on engagements.
• Reviews work before submission to Managers for further review.
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops or classes, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
• Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed, including special projects.
• Prioritizes and manages multiple projects and deadlines.
• Communicates effectively and serves as liaison among with Managers, clients, and staff.

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years of financial statement audit experience at a public accounting firm.
• BA/BS degree in accounting or business from an accredited university.
• Experience working with privately held clients.
• Must be able to travel to client locations.
• Strategic thinker with strong organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in accounting.
• Licensed and currently active CPA or working towards CPA designation.
• Industry experience in manufacturing, real estate, construction, not-for-profit preferred.
• Experience using Caseware.
• Applied working knowledge of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), U.S. Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS).
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

The Role

At Lucas Horsfall, a CAAS Manager is responsible for the client relationship of our mid-to-large-sized entities, advising clients on appropriate financial and visionary strategies. This position will mentor, train, and develop staff and seniors. The CAAS Manager is expected to play an active role in business development efforts. A commitment to identifying and cultivating new client opportunities is a core component of this position and will be reflected in the employee's annual performance scorecard. The role will be achieved in a hybrid environment out of our Pasadena, CA or Irvine, CA office. 

Key Responsibilities

• Set the vision for the monthly close process to happen timely, mitigate situations when factors come up to stall or delay, and ensure a monthly close deliverable is achieved by committing to month-end meetings with all clients. 
• Follow through and take ownership of correspondence with clients, staff, and partners.
• Drive departmental growth and contribute meaningfully to high-level decision making across the practice.
• Commitment to actively train, develop, and mentor staff and seniors.
• Provide advisory and technical expertise in delivery of tax services to clients, purchasing accounting, including M&A transaction support, and comprehensive payroll advisory services, including payroll tax preparation and the research necessary to ensure compliance and accuracy.
• Understanding of the internal control environment necessary on a client and advise where weaknesses or strengths are present.
• Function as a liaison, leading a client through a financial statement audit to ensure clients are “audit ready” with their year-end close and analysis of key account balances.
• Help solidify clients’ visions through budget preparation. Monitor budget versus actual and have active discussions with clients’ regarding variances.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of public accounting experience.
• 2+ years of experience training and supervising staff.
• Must have prior experience working with clients across various industries, including, but not limited to, manufacturing, nonprofit organizations, and SaaS (Software as a Service) companies. The ability to understand and navigate the unique accounting, compliance, and advisory needs of each sector is essential to success in this role.
• Proficiency across multiple accounting platforms including QuickBooks Online, Bill.com, NetSuite, and similar tools.
• BA/BS degree in accounting or equivalent from an accredited university.
• Licensed and currently active CPA.
• Capable of working in a demanding, deadline-driven environment either independently or within a team dynamic while effectively managing unexpected issues and/or questions in a professional manner.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in accounting or equivalent.
• Prior CAAS background. The ideal candidate will come from an established Accounting and Advisory Services department. 
• Experience building and growing an offshore team.

The Role

As a Tax Director in the Business Management group at Lucas Horsfall, you will oversee the Tax Department's operations, protocols, and team development. This role directs the preparation and review of complex federal and multi-state tax returns, with a strong emphasis on strategic planning and client advisory services. In addition to managing client engagements, the Tax Director establishes departmental standards, ensures compliance, and drives service excellence. They lead and mentor all tax staff, fostering growth through training, performance oversight, and technical guidance. The role also includes tax research, workflow supervision, resolution of tax notices, and direct communication with clients and tax authorities. This role will be achieved in a hybrid environment out of our Encino, CA or Pasadena, CA office locations. 

Key Responsibilities

• Provide high-level review of federal and multi-state income tax returns for individuals, corporations, flow-through entities, and Trusts; prepare and review quarterly estimates
• Work with clients and partners on tax planning and related tax issues
• Assume responsibility for client engagements and demonstrate strong leadership skills in monitoring assignments and planning staff workload; includes developing a system to monitor the completion of assignments in a timely and consistent manner
• Assist in management functions such as workflow supervision and planning, training, and mentoring of staff, and developing/improving processes and procedures
• Tax research and provide solutions on technical matters
• Respond to tax notices and interact with Federal, State and Local tax authorities
• Effectively communicate with clients and engagement team; ensure quality of work

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field
• Active licensed CPA
• 10+ years of relevant experience, including significant supervisory experience
• Proven technical ability and experience preparing and reviewing all types of tax returns

The Role

As a key member of the tax team, a Senior Bookkeeper will handle monthly, quarterly, and/or annual client bookkeeping. The position will also assist in various other activities including preparing business returns, 1099s, and processing accounting transactions (AP, AR, credit card activity, employee expense reporting, etc.). This role will be achieved in a hybrid environment out of our Pasadena or Encino office locations. 

Key Responsibilities

• Monthly, quarterly or annual client bookkeeping.
• Analysis of general ledger accounts and reconciliation of bank accounts, with appropriate client communication and action to resolve outstanding issues and items.
• Processes accounting transactions including, but not limited to accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit card activity, employee expense reporting, etc.
• Play an integral part in year-end close by evaluating and preparing required journal entries to get clients’ books and records ready for income tax preparation.
• Prepare business returns including property tax, sales tax, payroll tax, power of attorney forms, start-up filings and any other tax forms as needed.
• Excel spreadsheet analysis for various projects and processes.
• Set-up and manage access to clients’ payroll through third party vendor and retrieve necessary reports to assist with income tax preparation.
• 1099 preparation in general, getting information from the clients, TIN matching 1099 recipients before 1099’s are prepared, preparing extensions as needed.
• Handle phone calls to clients or government agencies for information needed to complete bookkeeping/accounting per supervisor’s instructions. 
• Prepare and review fiduciary accounting, which can include court accounting, forensic accounting, trust accounting for disclosure of trust fund for beneficiaries, etc. 

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive public accounting or accounting services experience.
• Proficiency with QuickBooks and MS Office. QB ProAdvisor preferred.
• Strong client rapport and project management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• 4-year degree in accounting or business is preferred.
• Ability to interact well with others in a team environment, as well as being able to work independently.
• Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Must be very detail-oriented and able to reconcile assets and balance to monthly statements, as some trusts have a lot of holdings and transactions.  
• Software could include Thomson Reuters Fiduciary Accounting Software (FAS), QuickBooks, and Excel.

• Prepare weekly cash reports across multiple clients with accuracy and consistency
• Build and maintain monthly and quarterly budgets and forecasting models to assist our clients in their business decision making
• Support revenue modeling and financial projections to assist client decision-making
• Prepare quarterly investment summaries, including performance and return analysis
• Produce annual and quarterly financial statements for portfolio companies
• Develop and maintain Excel-based reporting templates to efficiently manage high-volume, multi-client reporting
• Run ad hoc financial analyses and modeling projects as needed
• Interpret financial data and translate findings into clear, narrative-style insights and recommendations
• Present analysis in a structured, storytelling format that supports forecasting and decision-making

Required Qualifications

• 2-4 years of experience in business management, public accounting, or financial services
• Experience with Datafaction / AgilLink preferred
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting
• Advanced Excel skills required (pivot tables, formulas, data analysis, reporting automation, and queries)
• Experience building and maintaining financial models and reporting templates
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with ability to work independently

The Role

At Lucas Horsfall, a Fund Accounting Manager oversees the accounting, financial reporting, and operational activities for real estate and private equity funds. This role is responsible for managing both U.S. GAAP and tax-basis financial reporting, ensuring accurate investor allocations, and maintaining compliance with partnership agreements and regulatory requirements. The position plays a key role across the full fund lifecycle, from capital activity to audit and tax reporting. This position will be achieved in a hybrid environment out of our Encino or Pasadena office locations.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day fund accounting operations, including general ledger activity, journal entries, and reconciliations
• Oversee monthly and quarterly closes, including preparation and review of NAV calculations
• Review U.S. GAAP and tax-basis financial statements, ensuring accuracy and consistency between reporting frameworks
• Prepare and/or review capital calls, distributions, and investor allocations in accordance with Limited Partnership Agreements (LPAs)
• Maintain and review partner capital accounts, including allocations of income, expenses, and carried interest/waterfalls
• Coordinate accounting for investment activity, including acquisitions, dispositions, financing, and equity transactions
• Manage entity structures, including consolidations across funds, SPVs, and holding companies
• Partner with external auditors and tax advisors to support annual audits and tax reporting (e.g., K-1 preparation)
• Maintain and enhance internal controls, policies, and accounting procedures
• Lead, mentor, and review work of fund accounting staff

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
• Licensed and active CPA
• 5–10+ years of experience in real estate, private equity, or alternative investment fund accounting
• Strong knowledge of partnership accounting, including capital accounts and allocations
• Experience preparing or reviewing both GAAP and tax-basis financials
• Familiarity with book-to-tax differences and ability to work and coordinate with tax teams
• Experience with fund structures (LPs, LLCs, SPVs, blocker entities)

The Role

At Lucas Horsfall, a Senior Fund Accountant is responsible for managing financial records, preparing quarter-end financial statements and workpapers, and reviewing reconciliations. This position will provide guidance to junior accounting staff and will be achieved in a hybrid environment out of our Encino or Pasadena office locations.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare financial statements, which includes updating portfolio investment schedules, partner equity allocations and analyzing complex investment transactions.
• Assist with the internal portfolio review process, analyzing and tracking partnership and portfolio company financial performance.
• Monitor compliance with complex partnership agreements.
• Electronically distribute financials, K1s, capital call and distribution notices to Limited Partners.
• Prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Train, supervise, and develop staff on engagements.
• Communicate effectively and serve as liaison among managers, clients, and staff.

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years of accounting experience.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles.
• BA/BS degree in accounting or business from an accredited university.
• Proficiency in using accounting software and MS Office, especially Excel.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Licensed and currently active CPA or working towards CPA designation.
• Real estate fund accounting experience preferred.

The pay range for this role is $110,000 - $135,000 per year. This range includes the anticipated low and high end of the pay range for this position. Actual compensation may vary based on various factors, including experience, education, and/or skill level.
