Job Summary:
At LG Energy Solution Arizona, Inc., the Engineer II – Cell Quality Assurance will play a key role in improving manufacturing methods and procedures within the battery electrode production process to ensure products meet company quality specifications. Working closely with production, engineering, and quality teams, this role evaluates manufacturing processes, analyzes quality data, and implements improvements to strengthen product reliability and process consistency. The Engineer II applies quality tools such as PPAP, PFMEA, SPC, Gage R&R, calibration systems, and corrective and preventive actions to address production issues and support continuous quality improvement. Through cross-functional collaboration and data-driven analysis, this role helps ensure battery cell components meet established standards for quality, reliability, and performance.

Sr. Manager, Cell Quality Assurance
Responsibilities:
• Develop and document inspection Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure inspection reliability and verify applicability within inspection and testing processes.
• Analyze production process conditions and manufacturing data to identify root causes of electrode nonconformance, including field quality issues, and implement corrective actions in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
• Conduct analysis of nonconforming electrode samples, document investigation results, report findings to headquarters, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Utilize analytical and statistical methods, including Statistical Process Control (SPC), to monitor electrode manufacturing quality, identify potential risk factors, and implement preventive quality measures.
• Perform surveillance audits of electrode production processes to verify compliance with quality standards, procedures, and operational requirements.
• Review and approve PPAP documentation and 4M process changes related to electrode manufacturing to ensure quality requirements are maintained.
• Perform cell validation testing, including performance, safety, and reliability evaluations, to confirm product quality and manufacturing process stability.
• Maintain worksite organization and cleanliness in accordance with 5S3R standards (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain; Right Location, Right Quantity, Right Container) to support safe and efficient electrode inspection and testing operations.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required (Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering preferred).
• 3+ years of experience in Quality Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering within an automotive or high-volume manufacturing environment, including internship or co-op experience.
• Experience supporting high-volume production environments, including development and implementation of Control Plans, PFMEA, and process controls.
• Knowledge of quality methodologies and problem-solving tools, including Minitab, Six Sigma, and 8D problem-solving methods.
• Experience using Microsoft Office and Minitab for data analysis and reporting.
• Knowledge of electrochemistry and lithium-ion battery cell materials (e.g., cathode, anode, separator) preferred.
• Experience performing cell validation testing, including performance, safety, and reliability testing.
Skills:
• Knowledge of APQP, inspection equipment and techniques, and root cause failure analysis methodologies.
• Familiarity with capability studies, statistical analysis, and manufacturing process evaluation.
• Understanding of PFMEA, Control Plans, PPAP, 8D/5-Why problem solving, and fault tree analysis (FTA).
• Knowledge of SOPs, Control Plans, CTQs, and parameters used for conducting process audits.
• Strong data analysis and reporting capabilities, including the ability to prepare technical reports and summarize quality findings.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across production, engineering, and quality teams.
• Demonstrated teamwork and effectiveness in achieving organizational goals.

Job Summary:
The Inspection Technology Engineer I supports the implementation, validation, and continuous improvement of automated inspection systems used in cylindrical lithium-ion battery cell manufacturing. This role focuses on ensuring inspection systems operate reliably, detect defects accurately, and support safe, high-volume production for EV battery applications.
The role is hands-on and highly collaborative, working closely with Production, Quality Assurance, Equipment Engineering, and EHS teams in a fast-paced environment. The engineer will gain exposure to vision systems, X-ray inspection, metrology, and automated electrical test systems across electrode, assembly, and formation processes.
Responsibilities:
Support inspection, manufacturing, or automation processes on the production floor.
Assist with setup, validation, and optimization of inspection and production equipment.
Analyze basic process and inspection data to support yield and quality improvements.
Support troubleshooting of equipment and process-related issues under guidance.
Participate in new model introductions and process change activities.
Follow SOPs, work instructions, and engineering standards.
Collaborate with technicians, engineers, and cross-functional teams.
Support documentation, reporting, and continuous improvement activities.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or related field).
1+ years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment (internship or co-op acceptable).
Basic understanding of manufacturing processes and quality concepts.
Fundamental understanding of automated equipment or inspection systems.
Knowledge of machine vision algorithm libraries (Halcon, OpenCV) and deep learning models.
Exposure to maintenance of in-line inspection systems (Machine Vision, 3D metrology, X-ray and CT).
Understanding of measurement system analysis (MSA) and gage R&R using Minitab.
Skills:

Job Summary:

Operating within an advanced laboratory and analytical environment, this role drives in-depth analysis of internal, external, and field-returned samples to determine failure mechanisms and systemic risks across supplier, production, and finished product stages. The Senior Engineer develops detailed technical reports, leads cross-functional investigations, and provides technical leadership for failure analysis activities and investigation strategy. Through these efforts, the role guides engineering and quality teams in implementing effective corrective and preventive actions that strengthen product safety and reliability.
Responsibilities:
• Lead structural and design safety risk analysis of lithium-ion battery cell systems using advanced analytical methods and precision analysis equipment.
• Lead complex battery failure investigations by analyzing internal samples, field-returned products, and adjacent cell conditions to identify root causes and failure mechanisms.
• Design and lead reproducibility experiments to validate suspected failure mechanisms and confirm systemic root causes of field quality issues.
• Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in failure analysis, mentoring engineers and guiding operators on standardized analysis methods and proper use of laboratory equipment.
• Develop and maintain a failure occurrence knowledge library documenting key failure phenomena identified through field quality investigations and reproducibility testing.
• Perform advanced data analysis and present investigation findings, root causes, and recommended corrective actions to engineering leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Drive cross-functional investigations with Engineering, Quality, Customer Service/Warranty teams, suppliers, and global headquarters to resolve complex product issues and strengthen product reliability.
• Maintain laboratory organization and compliance with 5S3R standards (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain; Right Location, Right Quantity, Right Container) to ensure a safe and efficient analysis environment.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field; equivalent diploma with relevant experience may be considered.
• 7+ years of experience in quality engineering, failure analysis, or reproducibility testing within an automotive or manufacturing environment.
• Extensive experience conducting complex failure investigations of lithium-ion battery components, including fire-related or safety-critical events.
• Advanced experience using failure analysis and non-destructive testing equipment, including 3D CT systems, SEM/EDX, ion milling, mechanical polishing, or optical microscopy.
• Experience operating battery charge and discharge system equipment for product testing and failure investigation.
• Experience in metrology, measurement systems programs, and calibration processes preferred.
• Demonstrated problem-solving capability, with Six Sigma Green Belt or equivalent methodology experience preferred.
• Ability to work flexible hours as needed to support global collaboration and investigation activities.

• Knowledge of IATF and ISO standards.

• Oversee and execute internal audit programs, ensuring audits are conducted effectively and corrective actions are implemented to address identified gaps.
• Develop, maintain, and standardize quality system documentation, including procedures, policies, work instructions, and records required to support certification and regulatory compliance.
• Drive organization-wide corrective and preventive action (CAPA) processes, ensuring issues identified through audits, performance metrics, or investigations are resolved effectively.
