AI Foundations is Toast's internal platform team for AI. A day in the life (Responsibilities)

• Design, build, and ship features across AI platform infrastructure, including the LLM proxy, AI key management, and observability pipelines

Overview

We are seeking a Principal Kubernetes Architect to serve as a senior technical authority for the design, evolution, and operation of InterSystems Kubernetes based cloud platforms. This role is responsible for defining reference architectures, establishing engineering standards, and solving the most complex platform challenges across hybrid and multi cloud environments.

As a Principal Architect, you will operate at both a strategic and hands on level. The Global Delivery Leader will own the strategy, architecture, and global execution of InterSystems’ cloud-native Service Delivery Platform. About the Role

Product Managers on the Atlas team work side-by-side with engineering, design, marketing, and analytics to build scalability capabilities that our users trust and that work for the business. Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in application security, software security, or product security

Forward Deployed Engineering is linking the work of teams engaged on application modernization roles with our Product and Engineering teams.

Many organizations have built up large estates of legacy applications. Lack of scalability and resilience, long development times, operating cost, and inability to run on cloud are common issues with these applications. To address these issues, organizations are engaging in large transformational Application Modernisation programs. MongoDB is recognized as the developer data platform of choice for transactional systems that provide the best scalability, resiliency and developer experience in the cloud as well as on premises. Organizations are continuously migrating workloads from these legacy applications to new platforms, often based on microservices, using MongoDB. 

Such transformations are time intensive and often risky. Tooling based on generative AI promises to accelerate these transformations in a way never seen before. Forward Deployed Engineering is responsible for exploring the possibilities of Generative AI  technologies and providing invaluable feedback to MongoDB’s R&D teams to drive future capabilities of MongoDB and the MongoDB ecosystem.

Application Modernization Engineers will work alongside project teams that are executing Application Modernisation projects with customers. The successful candidate will be responsible for evaluation, build, and applying tools in modernization  projects, facilitating the usage of such tools and processes across the different project teams, identifying opportunities for tooling deployment, selecting potential 3rd party tools, contributing to the development of tooling prototypes and helping to shape the product roadmap.

Our ideal candidate will have

• 4+ years of experience as a field engineer or professional services consultant or full stack developer working directly with Enterprise clients 
• Proficiency in Java or C#, and some familiarity with common database access patterns and frameworks in one or more of these languages
• Strong knowledge about enterprise-scale software architectures, application development methodologies, and software deployment and operations

We are hiring an experienced Security Software Engineer (Staff or Senior) for our Infrastructure Security team to design and build scalable security controls and services within MongoDB Atlas multi-cloud infrastructure.

The team sits within the Site Reliability Engineering organization and works with other engineering teams to ensure that our infrastructure adheres to the highest security standards.

• Design and build core security primitives and services that protect MongoDB Atlas compute, networking, and identity across AWS, Azure, and GCP
• Build secure-by-default infrastructure using Linux security mechanisms (AppArmor, SELinux, seccomp, cgroups), Kubernetes, and eBPF to enforce runtime policies and gain deep visibility into systems behaviour
• Develop APIs, automation, and tooling that manage security posture at scale (CSPM, vulnerability management, workload identity) and provide monitoring, logging, and alerting pipelines that integrate with our tooling (Grafana, Splunk, Victoria Metrics.)
• Integrate security into our CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code workflows (Terraform) so that security controls are versioned, reviewed, and deployed just like any other code

We are seeking a Staff engineer to design, build, and operate the internal and external Observability stack for the MongoDB platform. Tens of thousands of customers depend on our Observability stack to monitor their database clusters and to generate actionable alerts to safeguard critical workloads. This is an opportunity to join a team that is responsible for all Observability systems that support metrics, metric visualization, logs, traces, and alerts for MongoDB. • Solving complex problems at scale, and to high standards, excites you

Responsibilities

• Help build and architect systems for the mission-critical observability platform, leading the architecture and implementation of components that drive performance, scalability, cost-efficiency, and resiliency
• Design and implement observability improvements that enable MongoDB engineers and customers to quickly and accurately diagnose the root cause of production issues.
• Handle production customer escalations from Technical Support team and coach teammates to do the same
• Write production-ready database code, improve the existing code, and mentor their team to write higher quality code
• Own areas of code that the Observability Team maintains, ensuring it achieves a high standard for quality (including security, durability, availability, and performance) and maintainability
• Diagnose test failures, identify bugs in existing code, fix them, and prevent bugs from being introduced in new code
• Investigate the performance impact of code changes that may cause software performance regressions

Atlas Growth is a cloud engineering group whose mission is to guide customers through their app development journey—from cluster configuration, data modeling and load testing, to running a production workload at scale. MongoDB Technical Services Engineers use their exceptional problem solving and customer service skills, along with their deep technical experience, to advise customers and to solve their complex MongoDB problems. • Professional Java experience building maintainable, testable services in production (this is core to the role).

• Experience implementing ML workflows in production (e.g., retrieval/ranking pipelines, feature/data pipelines, model/embedding services, evaluation frameworks).

• Comfort working with data tooling and data-intensive systems (large datasets, pipelines, and service integrations).

• Experience operating software at meaningful scale (e.g., high throughput, significant data volume, performance and reliability constraints).

• Strong engineering fundamentals: system design, code quality, debugging, observability, and operational excellence.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

• Experience with search/retrieval/relevance/ranking systems (highly aligned to context work).

• Experience with RAG-style systems, embeddings, vector search, or hybrid retrieval strategies.

• Familiarity with LLM evaluation patterns (golden sets, automated metrics, human review), hallucination mitigation, and quality measurement.

• Experience with distributed systems, event-driven architectures, or stream processing.

• Cloud/platform experience (e.g., Kubernetes, AWS/GCP) and running services in production.

• Some Python experience (useful, but not the primary language).
