Senior Software Engineer, Windows/Desktop Applications - Auckland, New Zealand

Over 50 million people use Speechify’s text-to-speech products to turn whatever they’re reading – PDFs, books, Google Docs, news articles, websites – into audio, so they can read faster, read more, and remember more. Speechify’s text-to-speech reading products include its iOS app, Android App, Mac App, Chrome Extension, and Web App. Google recently named Speechify the Chrome Extension of the Year and Apple named Speechify its 2025 Design Award winner for Inclusivity.
Today, nearly 200 people around the globe work on Speechify in a 100% distributed setting – Speechify has no office. These include frontend and backend engineers, AI research scientists, and others from Amazon, Microsoft, and Google, leading PhD programs like Stanford, high growth startups like Stripe, Vercel, Bolt, and many founders of their own companies
- Lead the design, architecture, and development of native Windows desktop applications using Windows App SDK, WinUI (or related UI frameworks), C#, XAML, and — when needed — C++.
- Define and enforce best-practices for Windows desktop development across the codebase: code architecture, performance, memory usage, responsive UI, cross-version compatibility (Windows 10/11+), and maintainability.
- Drive accessibility efforts: integrate and validate support for accessibility APIs (e.g. Microsoft UI Automation or other relevant Windows accessibility frameworks), ensure UI controls, focus management, keyboard navigation, screen-reader support, and usability for users with disabilities.
- Collaborate closely with product designers, UX researchers, QA, and other stakeholders to shape feature planning, UI/UX architecture, and long-term roadmap for the Windows platform.
- Take ownership of full lifecycle of features: conception → design → implementation → testing → release → maintenance. Ensure quality, reliability, and consistency across releases.
- Identify, diagnose, and resolve complex bugs, performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, rendering issues, or compatibility problems — and propose robust architectural or design solutions.
Required:
- 3+ in Windows desktop application development using Windows App SDK, WinUI (or similar), C#, XAML — and ideally additional experience with native Windows code (C++, Win32/WinRT/COM).
- Deep understanding of Windows application architecture, including interop between managed code (.NET) and native code.
- Proven track record of designing, building, and shipping production-quality desktop applications, with an emphasis on reliability, performance, scalability, and maintainability.
- Strong experience with accessibility APIs on Windows (e.g. Microsoft UI Automation or similar), and a dedication to building accessible and inclusive software.
- Excellent software engineering fundamentals: OOP, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, memory management, multi-threading or asynchronous programming (where relevant).
- Experience leading technical design, mentoring other engineers, conducting code reviews, and making architecture-level decisions.
- Strong communication skills; ability to articulate tradeoffs, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and drive consensus.
- A user-centric mindset: focus on building polished, intuitive, and accessible experiences for end users.
Preferred / Bonus:
- Experience with writing automated tests for UI — unit tests, integration tests, UI automation tests; familiarity with relevant testing frameworks.
- Experience with performance optimization for desktop apps (memory usage, startup time, rendering performance, high-DPI support, responsiveness under load).
- Experience with localization/globalization, right-to-left UI support, internationalization, accessibility for multiple regions.
- Familiarity with telemetry, analytics, crash reporting, logging, and error monitoring in desktop applications.
- Previous experience in shaping CI/CD workflows, release pipelines, and deployment strategies for desktop applications.
- Demonstrated ability to take ownership of feature areas or modules and drive them long-term, including maintenance, refactoring, and technical debt management.

The Role:
It’s an exciting time for Ping Identity in New Zealand. Off the back of recent growth you will be the first Sales Engineer on the ground further accelerating adoption of Ping Identity solutions in the country. With the support of an exceptional Sales Engineering team in Australia and Singapore, you will shape the face of this role.
This role offers the chance to showcase your technical and consultative skills, engaging with stakeholders of various roles and levels to understand and meet their technical requirements with cutting-edge solutions. Your expertise in Identity and Access Management (IAM) technologies will be key in delivering impactful solutions that align with customer business goals.
You will also be instrumental in strengthening partner relationships across ANZ. You will work alongside a highly effective partner team on engaging and interactive customer oriented meetings, demonstrations, and proofs of concept that articulate the business and technical value customers will receive from a Ping Identity solution. You will be an active member of a team that empowers personal, team, and partner success. This role will be a key contributor to our overall sales and business development strategy as we look to continue maturing our partner network that will ensure sustained growth across the region as well as seeking to build out our partner capability in a number of other developing markets.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver pre-sales activities including solution demonstrations, presentations, technical guidance, proof of concepts, and RfX responses.
- Act as the go-to technical expert on Ping Identity solutions for customers, partners, and internal teams.
- Establish enduring relationships with customers and become their trusted advisor
- Collaborate with the sales team to deliver revenue. Emphasis during key sales cycle phases of Qualification, Discovery, and Technical Proof Phase
- Coordinate, throughout sales cycle, pre-sales efforts with a post-sales service delivery team
- Leading customer-facing meetings, both through videoconferencing and in-person to, deliver presentations, whiteboarding sessions, and demonstrations of Ping Identity solutions and their value remotely, in-person, and at industry events
- Provide insightful feedback on product enhancements and customer needs to product owners.
- Mentoring, both formally and informally, junior team members
- Develop subject matter expert-level knowledge of at least one of Ping Identity's solutions and serve as an expert resource to other Sales Engineers within the organization
- Foster close relationships with delivery partners to support the technical sales relationship and build a mutual beneficial plan of success for delivering Ping Identity solutions.
- Support partner teams to understand and deliver enablement to drive and business goals
- Provide pre-sales technical guidance to partners, i.e., product demonstrations, proof of concept for proposed solutions, and/or technical workshops
- Able to travel 15% to 40% as needed
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent field, or 5+ years' experience with enterprise-level software systems in a customer-facing role, such as pre-sales, consulting, support, or training
- Deep knowledge of standard identity protocols: SAML, WS-Fed, OAuth, OIDC, and SCIM as well as experience with REST interfaces
- Deep knowledge of technologies that underly identity solutions: LDAP (including Active Directory), SSL/TLS, PKI, RADIUS, SQL, DNS, JDBC
- Experience with one or more modern programming languages and web technologies: JavaScript, Python, Node.js, HTTP, HTML, CSS, JSON, Java.
- Expertise in developing and delivering effective technical presentations, workshops, customized demonstrations, and proof of concepts
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Adept at linking technical capabilities to customer needs.
- Ability to work with a high level of self-direction and/or collaboratively with team and customers
- Knowledge of a subset of the following IAM concepts: Authentication / Authorization / Federation / Single Sign-On / User Lifecycle Management / Provisioning / Governance / Workflow /

ABOUT SPACE SYSTEMS AT ROCKET LAB:
Rocket Lab’s Space Systems team is responsible for every satellite and satellite component made by Rocket Lab: from complete satellites destined for missions to the Moon and Mars, to the individual components and subsystems that make up a satellite like solar panels, flight software, reaction wheels and star trackers, separation systems, radios, and more. WHAT YOU'LL GET TO DO:

The Spacecraft Operations Intern Engineer at Rocket Lab in Auckland, New Zealand, supports the Spacecraft Operations team by integrating AI tools and enhancing ground software with AI features to improve spacecraft operations. This internship offers hands-on experience across the entire spacecraft operations ecosystem, including missions ranging from Low Earth Orbit (LEO) science and service constellations to interplanetary missions. The intern will help maintain the health and safety of Rocket Lab’s growing fleet, ensuring mission objectives and service level agreements are met.
Responsibilities include supporting diverse missions—such as LEO on-orbit manufacturing, deep space missions, and constellation management—across all phases, from commissioning and orbit raising to routine operations and re-entry. The role involves close collaboration with teams in spacecraft design, assembly, integration and testing (AIT), flight software, propulsion, guidance, navigation and control (GNC), flight dynamics, and ground software development. Rocket Lab’s vertically integrated approach provides interns with exposure to a wide range of technical products and responsibilities, making this a unique opportunity to develop both spacecraft operations and software AI skills.
YOU'LL BRING THESE QUALIFICATIONS:

- Demonstrated success working in dynamic environments with multiple priorities (e.g., university projects, internships).

We’re hiring an Intermediate Software Engineer who can take meaningful pieces of product, build them well, and ship them confidently in a collaborative, high-trust environment.
This isn’t a “close tickets and move on” role.
This is a “build things that matter” role.
You’ll be responsible for delivering business value by designing and developing high-quality software in a highly collaborative environment. You’ll report to a Senior member of the Engineering team, and be trusted to self-manage your day-to-day work.
You will sit in that critical middle layer of engineering — capable, accountable, and growing into senior-level thinking.
The Work
You’ll spend your time building, improving, and collaborating.
Design & Development
- Develop clean, efficient, scalable software
- Build tools and applications that ship regularly into production
- Contribute to solution design, algorithms, and feature architecture
- Automate repetitive tasks using scripting and tooling
- Architect and build moderately complex software solutions
You won’t just implement requirements — you’ll shape solutions.
Quality & Ownership
- Review and debug code (yours and others’)
- Perform validation and verification testing
- Identify risks and problems early
- Suggest improvements to design and approach
- Participate in on-call support (shared responsibility for reliability)
You’ll take initiative. If something needs fixing, you fix it — or you raise it.
Collaboration
You’ll work closely with Product Managers, UX & Design, QA, Site Reliability Engineering and our Engineering Leaders and Tech Leads. You’ll communicate progress, blockers, and risks clearly, in both technical and business-impact terms.
You’ll also contribute to:
- Refining engineering culture
- Technical discussions and trade-offs
- Recruitment (technical screens and selling the vision)
- Continuous improvement of our SDLC practices
Our Tech Stack
- Build high-throughput services in .NET 8 (microservices) alongside a battle-tested .NET Framework 4.8 monolith processing billions in giving
- Design event-driven pipelines with Kinesis and RabbitMQ that bridge legacy and modern domains reliably.
- Own microservices that solve real business problems, think payments, communications, third-party integrations etc.
- Solve real scale and data integrity challenges in a secure multi-tenant architecture serving thousands of churches.
- Deliver production-ready software with strong CI/CD, AWS infrastructure, and deep operational telemetry.
- Grow your skills through hands-on migration work—modernising legacy code while keeping production humming.
