Join us on our mission to empower more people to find their way home by breaking barriers to entry, making the right connections, and building confidence through expert guidance.

We are seeking a Staff DevOps Engineer to join our CI/CD Platform team. In this role, your mission is to treat the delivery pipeline as a scalable, secure, and resilient product. You will architect, build, and maintain the infrastructure that enables hundreds of engineers to move code from commit to production safely and efficiently.

This role focuses on establishing robust, multi-tenant GitOps delivery patterns, optimizing container orchestration across global AWS EKS environments, and building developer-centric internal tooling. You will combine deep hands-on execution with technical leadership, mentoring, and cross-team partnership to improve the maturity of our shared engineering systems.

We believe in leveraging the best tools to solve problems faster. You will be expected to use AI coding assistants and LLMs to accelerate development, generate boilerplate, investigate complex failures, and improve documentation. You will apply sound judgment to verify AI-generated output for security, performance, reliability, and accuracy.

What you’ll do

Platform Architecture & Design
  • Lead the design, implementation, and scaling of an enterprise self-service CI/CD platform and cloud-native application runtimes.
  • Treat delivery infrastructure as a product with clear users, reliability goals, adoption measures, and feedback loops.
  • Build reusable platform capabilities that abstract infrastructure complexity for product developers.
  • Lead code reviews, architecture reviews, and technical planning for platform initiatives.
AWS EKS & Multi-Cluster Operations
  • Build and manage production-grade, highly available AWS EKS clusters across multiple regions and a resilient multi-cluster topology.
  • Optimize compute resource scheduling and autoscaling using Karpenter and related Kubernetes capabilities.
  • Define cluster lifecycle, networking, workload placement, capacity, and operational-readiness practices.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex problems involving Kubernetes workloads, networking, deployments, and distributed systems.
Service Mesh & Network Operations
  • Deploy and configure Istio service mesh across environments to support advanced traffic management.
  • Implement canary routing, circuit breaking, mTLS, and secure ingress and egress gateway patterns.
  • Improve service-to-service reliability, observability, and operational safety without creating unnecessary platform complexity.
GitOps, Security & Policy
  • Standardize and maintain enterprise-scale CircleCI workflows and multi-cluster GitOps pipelines using ArgoCD.
  • Build reusable pipeline templates and deployment automation that support secure, repeatable application delivery.
  • Implement Kubernetes security controls including IAM Roles for Service Accounts, Network Policies, secrets management, and policy-as-code validation.
  • Integrate security, resilience, performance, and cost-efficiency into platform design and delivery practices.
Technical Leadership & Observability
  • Mentor other DevOps engineers and help raise engineering maturity across teams.
  • Build comprehensive monitoring and distributed tracing capabilities across multi-cluster environments using Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, or comparable tools.
  • Partner with engineering squads to understand their delivery needs and improve platform adoption and developer experience.
  • Maintain an active coding footprint in Terraform, Python, Go, Bash, and system automation.
What you’ll bring

Experience & Expertise
  • 8+ years of experience in cloud engineering, infrastructure automation, SRE, or DevOps platform roles.
  • 4+ years of hands-on experience designing, provisioning, and troubleshooting AWS infrastructure at scale.
  • 3+ years of production experience administering Amazon EKS and multi-cluster containerized environments.
  • 1–2+ years of hands-on experience deploying and operating Istio Service Mesh or a similar container-mesh solution.
  • Experience building reusable CI/CD, GitOps, infrastructure-as-code, or platform capabilities used by engineering teams.
Technical Skills
  • Cloud and infrastructure: AWS, EKS, EC2, VPC, IAM, Route 53, S3, Kubernetes, Docker, and Helm.
  • CI/CD and GitOps: CircleCI, ArgoCD, GitOps workflows, reusable pipeline templates, runner infrastructure, and deployment automation.
  • Kubernetes operations: Karpenter or comparable autoscaling, multi-cluster operations, workload scheduling, cluster lifecycle management, and networking.
  • Service mesh and reliability: Istio or a comparable service mesh, Envoy, mTLS, traffic routing, canary releases, circuit breaking, observability, and incident response.
  • Security and policy: IRSA, Kubernetes Network Policies, OPA or Kyverno, secrets management, vulnerability management, and secure supply-chain practices.
  • IaC and automation: Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK, Helm, Python, Go, Bash, or comparable tools.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with CircleCI in production.
  • Experience with multi-cluster Istio or another service mesh.
  • Experience with security scanning and policy tools such as SonarQube, Checkmarx, OPA, or Kyverno.
  • Certifications such as CKA, CKS, or AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional.
  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform or GKE.

Professional Qualities

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.

  • Collaborative approach to working across engineering, security, finance, product, and business teams.

  • Self-motivated and comfortable solving ambiguous problems in a growing platform organization.

  • Data-driven decision-making with empathy for developer experience.

  • Practical judgment about when to standardize, when to provide flexibility, and how to drive adoption of shared platform capabilities.

  • RealOwnership mindset with a focus on durable systems, measurable outcomes, and continuous improvement.
