Position Summary 

BB&E is seeking a part time Senior Structural Engineer to provide technical design support for NAVFAC Southeast in Jacksonville, Florida. The Structural Engineer will be responsible for the design, analysis, and review of new construction, repair, and renovation projects for Navy and Marine Corps facilities. This role supports mission-critical infrastructure efforts and requires collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality, code-compliant designs that meet NAVFAC and DoD standards. 

Job Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Provide independent, timely, and professional specialized structural engineering support services and consultation for the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of facilities for the Navy, Marine Corps, and other Supported Commands, including minor works projects, specific projects, special projects, military construction (MILCON), demolition, maintenance, space utilization, and facilities development
  • Participate in conferences with project stakeholders and collaborate with other engineering and architectural disciplines to ensure system coordination and integration with specific project requirement
  • Apply engineering skills to effectively assess customer requirements and develop innovative solutions
  • Buildings: Building construction represents approximately 70% of the workload
  • Bridges, piers, dry docks, and bulkheads: These projects represent approximately 20% of the workload
  • Perform occasional physical activities, including walking, climbing, and bending, while conducting fieldwork and inspections of existing or new facilities during design and construction

Requirements

Key Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship and theability to obtain/maintain a NACI/CAC is required
  • Certification: Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the discipline of Civil or Structural Engineering is required

Knowledge

  • Expert in advanced structural engineering concepts, principles, and practices as they apply to a wide range of shore and waterfront facilities, including piers, bulkheads, quays, and dry-dock facilities, housing, medical facilities, and aviation facilities
  • Mastery level knowledge and skill in applying, advanced theories, concepts, and principles of structural engineering
  • Ability to apply new developments or experimental theories in structural engineering to problems not readily treatable by conventionally accepted method
  • In depth knowledge of DOD and Navy guides, specifications, criteria and policy, industry codes and standards, and standard practices related to civil/structural engineering design
  • In depth knowledge of local, state, federal, and foreign country laws, codes, and other statutory requirements affecting structural engineering design throughout the NAVFAC Mid-Atlantic AOR
  • Knowledge of related architectural and engineering fields and their associated impacts as related to structural engineering design
  • Ability to produce results of analysis in writing and consolidate findings of others and evaluate recommendations and facts. Ability to make oral presentations of proposed designs and results of studies
  • Knowledge of budgeting, planning and project management techniques, including the ability to coordinate the work of others and lead teams
  • Knowledge of and full compliance with Safety Policy and Guidance and use of personal protective equipment
  • Strong Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
  • Software: Proficiency using MS Office software including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; knowledge and experience with Autodesk software, structural engineering design and analysis software and other applicable DoD computer systems and software used by the Command
  • Self-Starter: Highly motivated, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines autonomously
  • Strong Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
  • Software: Proficiency using MS Office software including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; knowledge and experience with Autodesk software, structural engineering design and analysis software and other applicable DoD computer systems and software used by the Command
  • Self-Starter: Highly motivated, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines autonomously

Experience & Education

  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of professional civil engineering - structural code compliant facilities design experience for new construction, including renovation design experience, is required
  • Education: Completion of a course of studies accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineers and Technology (ABET) for a civil engineering program from a college or university for a bachelor's or master's degree in civil engineering with emphasis in structural engineering, supplemented by a considerable amount of hands-on facilities design experience, is required

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand/walk/climb/kneel/crouch and remain in a stationary position/sit at least 60% of the time
  • Ability to operate office equipment, including computer, copy machine, phone, etc.
  • Ability to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or controls; reach with hands and arms
  • Capable of lifting up to 10 lbs.

  • Competitive hourly compensation ranging from $60.00 to $80.00 per hour,. This range represents good-faith compensation for the position at the time of posting. Individual compensation is determined based on several factors, including job responsibilities, relevant experience, education, certifications, technical skills, security clearance status, geographic location, market conditions, internal equity, and contract-specific requirements.
