Position Summary

The Perioperative Services Technician is responsible for supporting daily operations within the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) and Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC). This hybrid role will provide approximately 30% SPD responsibilities and 70% ASC operating room support, assisting with room turnovers, case preparation, sterile supply management, and surgical team support to ensure safe, efficient, and timely patient care.

The ideal candidate is a Certified Sterile Processing Technician who is knowledgeable in sterile technique, surgical instrumentation, infection prevention practices, and operating room workflows.

Schedule

Full-time position supporting ASC surgical operations. Schedule may vary based on surgical volume and facility needs.

Essential Responsibilities

Sterile Processing Department (Approximately 30%)

  • Perform sterile processing duties including decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, and storage of surgical instruments and supplies.

  • Follow established standards for cleaning, disinfecting, sterilizing, and maintaining surgical instrumentation.

  • Prepare surgical trays and instrument sets according to scheduled procedures.

  • Maintain accurate documentation of sterilization processes, biological monitoring, and quality checks.

  • Ensure sterile supplies and instruments are properly stored and available for surgical cases.

  • Assist with inventory management and restocking of supplies as needed.

ASC Operating Room Support (Approximately 70%)

  • Perform efficient operating room turnovers between surgical cases, including cleaning, restocking, and preparing rooms for the next patient.

  • Assist with picking surgical cases by gathering required instruments, supplies, implants, and equipment according to preference cards and scheduled procedures.

  • Support surgical teams by opening sterile supplies and preparing the sterile field while maintaining aseptic technique.

  • Assist with patient positioning under the direction of the surgical team, following safety protocols and proper positioning guidelines.

  • Help transport and organize surgical equipment and supplies to support daily case flow.

  • Maintain readiness of operating rooms by ensuring necessary supplies and equipment are available.

  • Communicate effectively with surgeons, nurses, anesthesia staff, and other ASC team members to support efficient workflow.

  • Follow all infection prevention, safety, and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • Current certification as a Sterile Processing Technician (CSPDT, CRCST, or equivalent preferred).

  • Previous experience working in Sterile Processing, Operating Room, or Ambulatory Surgery Center environment preferred.

  • Knowledge of surgical instruments, sterile technique, and operating room procedures.

  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced surgical environment.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with surgical staff and maintain professional communication.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.

  • Ability to lift, move, and transport supplies, equipment, and instrument trays.

  • Ability to assist with patient positioning and surgical room preparation.

  • Ability to work in a clinical environment requiring adherence to strict infection control practices.
