RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as the primary liaison between Area Scouts and Amateur Scouting leadership, ensuring alignment in scouting philosophy, priorities, and organizational processes.

  • Oversee the quality and consistency of scouting reports, ensuring evaluations are comprehensive, well-supported, and leverage all available resources.

  • Build a positive, accountable, and collaborative team environment that promotes trust, transparency, inclusivity, and continuous learning while reinforcing organizational values and expectations.

  • Produce high-quality player evaluations by integrating live scouting, video scouting, performance data, medical information, player development insight, and analytical resources.

  • Communicate significant player movement, evaluation updates, and emerging draft trends to Amateur Scouting leadership to support informed organizational decision-making.

  • Represent the collective work of the assigned scouting group during draft preparation, cross-functional meetings, and organizational discussions.

  • Identify opportunities to improve scouting workflows, evaluation standards, communication, and overall departmental processes while promoting innovation and continuous improvement.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Ability to build and cultivate relationships.

  • Willing to connect with and respect people from different backgrounds and cultures, including players, families, coaches, agents, trainers, and others.

  • Proficient with the necessary hardware, tools, and equipment to conduct information gathering for the Amateur scouting domain.

  • Ability to use the appropriate software platform(s) and digital tools necessary for the submission and quality control of evaluations.

  • An expertise of the landscape and context surrounding the Amateur scouting domain.

  • Ability to understand and decipher the data that drives the desired signals in the Amateur Scouting domain.

  • An understanding of each evaluation domain (development, performance, medical, behavioral health, background, etc.) to be able to succinctly capture the information necessary to meaningfully engage with experts (doctors, S&C coaches, analysts, etc.).

In addition to the above requirements, all roles within Baseball Operations are expected to effectively demonstrate our universal competencies related to problem solving, teamwork, clarity of communication, and time management, along with embodying our culture of honesty, humility, relentlessness, and commitment to DEIB.
