About this Liabilities Manager role at TopFloor
Our client, a registered Non‑Bank Financial Institution, is seeking to appoint a Liabilities Manager to lead the development and execution of the organisation’s liability growth strategy. The successful candidate will drive sustainable deposit growth, strengthen funding stability, and enhance customer acquisition while ensuring profitability.
The role is accountable for the overall management of the liability portfolio—including Fixed Deposits, Savings Accounts, and future liability products—and for leading a dedicated Liabilities Team. Key responsibilities include deposit mobilization, new customer acquisition, managing strategic partnerships, developing innovative liability products, and achieving annual liability growth targets in line with regulatory requirements and prudent risk management.
Responsibilities
- Support the implementation of digital transformation initiatives.
- Participate in Asset and Liability Committee (ALCO) meetings and contribute to funding and liquidity discussions.
- Work with Finance to optimize funding strategies and liquidity management.
- Undertake special projects and assignments delegated by the Chief Executive Officer or Executive Management.
- Perform any other duties and responsibilities assigned by Management from time to time that are consistent with the scope and level of the position.
Business Strategy & Leadership
- Develop and execute the annual Liability Business Strategy aligned with the organisations strategic objectives.
- Prepare and implement annual, quarterly, and monthly liability business plans and budgets.
- Drive the achievement of the organisations overall liability portfolio targets.
- Develop strategies to improve the institution's funding base and deposit mix.
- Identify new market opportunities to increase deposit mobilization across all customer segments.
Liability Portfolio Management
- Lead the growth and management of the Fixed Deposit & Savings portfolio.
- Develop strategies to increase low-cost deposits and improve the SA ratio where applicable.
- Ensure sustainable growth while maintaining portfolio quality and profitability.
Sales & Business Development
- Establish and lead a dedicated Liability Team.
- Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly sales performance.
- Drive customer acquisition through direct sales, relationship management, and business development initiatives.
- Develop and execute sales campaigns to achieve deposit mobilization targets.
- Identify and develop new business opportunities within the retail, SME, corporate, and institutional sectors.
Product Development & Innovation
- Lead the design, development, enhancement, and review of liability products.
- Introduce innovative savings and fixed deposit products that respond to market demand.
- Conduct market research and competitor analysis to identify product opportunities.
Customer Relationship Management
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with retail, SME, corporate, institutional, and high-net-worth customers.
- Ensure high standards of customer service and customer experience.
- Implement customer retention strategies to improve deposit renewals and reduce customer attrition.
Pricing & Profitability
- Recommend competitive deposit pricing while optimizing the cost of funds.
- Monitor market trends and competitor pricing.
- Improve the Company's funding stability and liquidity.
- Prepare annual liability budgets and forecasts.
- Monitor actual performance against approved budgets.
Team Leadership & Performance Management
- Recruit, train, coach, mentor, and develop the Liability Team.
- Set performance targets and monitor staff productivity.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and coaching sessions.
Risk Management & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with the Bank of Zambia regulations, internal policies, AML/CFT requirements, and KYC standards.
- Ensure proper customer due diligence for all liability relationships.
- Address audit findings and implement corrective actions.
- Present business performance reports to Executive Management.
- Ensure adherence to internal controls, policies, and delegated authorities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Actuarial Science, or Business Administration. Master’s Degree in these fields is preferred.
- 3 to 7+ years of experience in treasury, retail banking, risk management or ALM functions in a financial institution.
- At least 3+ years of management experience in similar function.
- Strong quantitative analysis, financial modelling, familiarity with Liability Portfolio Management and relevant banking regulations.
- Demonstrated leadership in balance sheet structuring, ALM policy development, and capital optimisation.
- Proven track record in dealing with regulators and managing ALCO processes.
- Strong analytical, quantitative, and financial modelling skills.
- Deep understanding of micro-finance products, funding structures, interest rate risk, and liquidity management principles.
- Capability to use data, modelling tools, and metrics to guide strategy and balance risk controls with revenue growth opportunities.
- Negotiation skills and the ability to influence people.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
