About this Financial Controller role at RYHR

RYHR · Onsite · Rotorua, Bay of Plenty Region, New Zealand

Te Taumata has recently completed a significant organisational reset. Roles have been reshaped, the finance team is being strengthened,  and this Financial Controller position will play an important part in embedding our future operating model.

This role will suit someone who enjoys building capability, strengthening systems and establishing  the technical backbone of a finance function through its next phase of development.

About us

Te Taumata is a leadership organisation established by and for Ngāti Whakaue, working across education, te reo Māori, housing development and social wellbeing.

Our work reaches hundreds of whānau, rangatahi, tamariki and kōhungahunga every year. We're guided by manaakitanga, whanaungatanga, kaitiakitanga, pono me te tika, and mana motuhake, and we mean it in practice, not just on the wall.

The role

As Financial Controller, you'll provide senior technical and strategic financial leadership across the Group and working closely with our Finance Manager, who leads day to day operation of the finance function and wider finance team.

Your focus will be the organisation's more complex technical accounting, statutory compliance, tax, audit, financial governance, and group consolidated reporting.

You'll be the person governance and executive leadership turn to for sound financial advice on major decisions, from capital investment to long term sustainability., You’ll also ensure our reporting integrity and financial controls hold up to scrutiny as the organisation grows in scale and complexity.

What you'll bring

  • Substantial senior experience in financial control, technical accounting, audit or statutory reporting
  • A recognised professional accounting qualification such as CA, CPA or equivalent, together with substantial senior finance leadership experience
  • Demonstrated experience producing or overseeing entity level and consolidated group reporting, ideally within a multi-entity or contract funded environment
  • The ability to translate complex financial information into clear, practical advice that non-finance people can understand and use.
  • A commitment to working in a values-led, kaupapa Māori environment; an understanding of te reo me ōna tikanga would be an advantage

Why join now

Because this is a role you get to define, not simply inherit. We're moving into new and interesting territory, and we need someone with the technical depth to ensure our financial foundations keep pace with our ambition.

If you want to make a lasting contribution to how a growing iwi organisation manages its financial future, this is that opportunity.

Apply now to help shape what comes next.
