Simply put, there’s no better place to accelerate your career. Come join us!
The Role
Overjet is seeking a hands-on Tech Lead / Engineering Manager to lead our Insurance Verification pod within the Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) organization. This is a player-coach role: you'll spend meaningful time in the codebase — designing, reviewing, and shipping — while also owning the day-to-day leadership, delivery, and growth of a small pod of engineers based out of our Pakistan (PK) team.
The Insurance Verification pod builds the systems that automate eligibility checks and benefits verification for dental practices, reducing manual front-desk work and preventing costly claim denials downstream. You'll own the technical direction and delivery of this product area, working closely with product, other RCM pods, and AI teams to ship reliable, high-throughput verification workflows.
This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to keep building while growing into (or continuing to grow in) an engineering leadership track — combining technical ownership of a meaningful product surface with direct people management of a tight-knit, high-trust pod.
Responsibilities
Ship code. Stay hands-on: design and build key features, take on complex or ambiguous technical problems, and set the technical bar for the pod through your own contributions, not just review.
Lead the pod. Manage, coach, and grow 3–6 engineers based in PK — running 1:1s, giving feedback, supporting career development, and holding the team to a high bar for quality and ownership.
Own technical direction. Define the architecture and technical roadmap for Insurance Verification, balancing near-term delivery needs against long-term maintainability.
Drive delivery. Break down the product roadmap into scoped, sequenced work; manage sprint execution; unblock the team; and be accountable for hitting delivery timelines and SLAs for verification throughput and accuracy.
Partner cross-functionally. Work closely with Product to translate requirements into technical plans, and coordinate with adjacent RCM pods and the AI team on shared data, pipelines, and integrations.
Uphold engineering quality. Champion code review standards, testing discipline, and operational practices (monitoring, on-call, incident response) appropriate for a production revenue-critical system.
Report up. Communicate progress, risks, and technical trade-offs clearly to engineering and product leadership.
Who You Are
You genuinely enjoy writing code and don't want to give that up to lead a team — you see technical credibility as the foundation of good management, not a distraction from it.
You care about the people on your pod and invest in their growth, even while carrying your own delivery load.
You can context-switch between deep technical work and people/delivery management without either one suffering.
You make sound prioritization calls under ambiguity, balancing business needs, team capacity, and technical debt.
You're comfortable owning outcomes for a product area end-to-end — from requirements through production operation.
You communicate clearly and proactively, especially across time zones and with distributed stakeholders.
Qualifications
6+ years of software engineering experience, including hands-on full-stack or backend development.
2+ years directly managing or leading engineers (formal management or strong tech-lead ownership of a team), with a track record of mentoring and growing people.
Strong hands-on experience with backend technologies such as Python, Java, or Go; comfort with relational and non-relational databases.
Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (GCP or AWS), Docker, Kubernetes, RESTful APIs, and CI/CD practices.
Experience owning a product area end-to-end: scoping, technical design, implementation, and production operation.
Experience working in distributed, cross-time-zone teams; comfortable managing engineers based in a different location than yourself.
Healthcare, insurance, fintech, or other high-reliability transactional systems experience is a plus.
Prior experience in a player-coach or working tech-lead role is a strong plus.
