Electrical Controls & Integration Engineer

Location: Virginia Beach, VA
Starting Salary: $80,000+ annually (higher based on experience)

A manufacturing company is seeking an Electrical Controls & Integration Engineer to support the design, integration, testing, and commissioning of industrial electrical systems. This role works closely with production, engineering, and sales teams to ensure electrical systems meet specifications, comply with NEC requirements, and are ready for customer delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, layouts, and wiring diagrams.
  • Develop electrical drawings, Bills of Material (BOMs), and equipment specifications.
  • Support electrical system design and review project requirements with engineering and sales teams.
  • Train electricians and production staff on schematic reading, wiring, testing, labeling, and safe work practices.
  • Test, inspect, and troubleshoot completed equipment before shipment, resolving any electrical issues.
  • Provide guidance on electrical component layout, control panel design, and installation standards.
  • Perform electrical load calculations and verify code compliance.
  • Coordinate electrical aspects of third-party supplied equipment.
  • Develop and manage cross-training programs related to electrical assembly and integration.
  • Prioritize multiple projects while maintaining quality and safety standards.
  • Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering field.
  • 3+ years of experience designing, installing, and testing industrial electrical equipment.
  • Strong ability to read electrical schematics, engineering drawings, and blueprints.
  • Experience using electrical test equipment, including multimeters, amp meters, and functional testing devices.
  • Knowledge of AC/DC electrical theory and the National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Experience designing and building industrial control panels.
  • Understanding of generators, transformers, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, motors, conduit systems, heating equipment, and related power generation components.
  • Experience with HMIs, sensors, displays, and basic equipment programming.
  • Fuel system integration experience is a plus.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to travel to project sites as needed.
  • Physical Requirements

  • Work in both office and manufacturing environments.
  • Sit, stand, walk, and use a computer for extended periods.
  • Communicate effectively with employees, leadership, and customers.
  • Manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing setting while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Travel between local facilities and project sites as required.
