Note: This is a full-time ACC AmeriCorps position with Neighborhood House.

About the American Connection Corps:

The American Connection Corps (ACC), an AmeriCorps program of Lead For America (LFA), is a service fellowship program aimed at helping communities build the digital connectivity necessary to expand opportunity and economic mobility, ranging from healthcare access to quality employment.

ACC Members spend a year serving with locally-rooted organizations, helping address the digital divide and strengthen access to opportunity. Through their service, they gain hands-on experience, build in-demand skills, and explore career pathways while making a tangible impact in their communities.

About Neighborhood House

Neighborhood House has been and continues to be a welcoming presence for thousands of refugees, immigrants and others in transition or crisis. Our organization has become a full-service hub for those seeking assistance with basic needs, from food to housing, as well as helping create future opportunities through family coaching and education programming.

Position Overview

In this role, members will work closely with Adult Education staff, and occasionally with other Neighborhood House staff or external partners, to help ensure that digital inclusion needs within the community are being met. Fellows, working alongside Neighborhood House digital navigation staff, will schedule and meet with participants to assess needs, determine eligibility, ensure access to appropriate devices and digital resources, and/or assist with enrollment in qualifying programs such as Comcast Internet Essentials and Lifeline. These meetings may take place in person, online, or over the phone. Internally, members will be part of the Adult Education team and will assist with data entry, evaluation, and instructional support as assigned.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise participants about free or affordable home internet service options for which they may qualify, assist clients with completing applications for the services they choose, and support their efforts to secure service
  • Assist participants in understanding eligibility requirements for a range of internal services and support service delivery activities alongside assigned staff.
  • As schedule allows, attend on-site intake times and provide incoming participants with digital navigation services
  • Work with the Online Services Specialist to incorporate digital navigation services into the online intake and registration process
  • Refer participants to other Neighborhood House programs or external community partners for additional services when appropriate
  • Assess participants’ current digital literacy skills, access to technology, and supports needed to attain their stated goals
  • Educate participants on computer and email account basics, digital safety, and other skills relevant to digital literacy
  • Coach participants in the use of their devices and home internet services. This may require referrals for additional digital literacy skills training at Neighborhood House or other community partners
  • Assist with the planning and instruction of basic digital literacy skills in Neighborhood House Adult Education classes alongside assigned staff
  • Represent Neighborhood House digital inclusion services at internal and select external community partner events
  • Co-plan, co-coordinate, and co-execute presentations with the team about Digital Equity and Inclusion for internal departments and external programs
  • Assist Neighborhood House staff with planning, coordinating, and conducting device distribution appointments for participants.
  • Use required data management systems to record activities and maintain confidentiality of all program participants in accordance with data privacy laws, standards, and policies
  • Schedule quarterly follow up appointments with recipients of any digital inclusion services
  • Perform all work in accordance with Neighborhood House policies and procedures
  • Attend and participate in all required meetings, trainings, committees, and events
