Overall Job Purpose:
The role sits within the European Syndicate and is offered as a 12-month Fixed-Term Contract (FTC) to provide maternity cover. The position is responsible for delivering P&I and FD&D (Freight, Demurrage and Defence) claims handling services and advice to Members. The portfolio will primarily cover Members based in Cyprus, while also providing exposure to other European and Middle Eastern regions. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting Members, managing complex claims, and contributing to the delivery of high-quality service across the region
Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
- To handle assigned claims in accordance with company procedures, provide advice on claims related issues and identify the need for loss prevention activity.
- Handling a wide range of P&I issues and Defence caseload.,
- Working with a team, taking ownership and responsibility for your caseload, but seeking advice and supportive guidance from your Syndicate Manager or Claims Directors as appropriate.
- To promote the relationship between the Club and existing Members for which the claims team is responsible.
- To ensure that all electronic correspondence, whether received or sent, relating to claim files assigned to the particular individual is promptly and correctly filed in accordance with the agreed working practices and to maintain and keep updated such e: files.
- To attend appropriate training and to develop relevant knowledge and skills.
- To perform any other ad hoc duties as required.
Person Specification:
- Qualified lawyer in a recognised jurisdiction, or a recently qualified lawyer seeking to develop a career in marine insurance and claims handling. Equivalent legal qualifications and relevant experience will also be considered.
- Excellent communication skills, including negotiating, presenting, and reporting (written and verbal).
- Ability to build and maintain effective business relationships at all levels, both internally and externally.
- Highly organised, motivated, and enthusiastic with an excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to deliver high quality work within agreed timeframes to and prioritise individual workload.
- Proactive and able to use own initiative.
- The ability to work within a team.
