About this Assistant Optical Practice Manager role at Cubitts
Two thirds of the population wear spectacles. Half wear them every day. Yet the industry that makes them has barely changed in three centuries — the products tired, the standards low, the experience forgettable. Cubitts exists to change that. We design and make spectacles the way they ought to be made: properly, beautifully, and for everyone.
We started in a single workshop on Cubitt Street in King's Cross. Today we're a growing estate of British-made eyewear stores across the UK and here in New York, where our Bleecker and Mercer stores bring the craft of Cubitts to the city. This is a genuine chapter-one moment for us in the US, and we're looking for someone who wants to help write it.
The role
As Assistant Optical Practice Manager you'll be at the heart of our New York practice — the person who makes the store feel effortless to the customer and energising to the team. You'll partner closely with the Practice Manager to run a brilliant store, develop a high-performing team, and deliver an optical experience that's second to none in the city.
This won't always be easy. Building something excellent rarely is. But for the right person it's a rare opportunity: to shape how a beloved British brand grows in America, with real ownership from the start.
What you'll do
You'll support the Practice Manager in running a seamless store that consistently exceeds its sales and customer-experience ambitions — and step in to lead in their absence, taking charge of all dispensing activity across the practice. You'll select, develop, and work alongside our optometrists and retail team to deliver impeccable frame and lens advice, precise fittings, and the kind of service people tell their friends about.
You'll work hand in hand with our glazing partners, bringing genuine expertise to lens selection and quality control. You'll build and continuously improve the operational rhythm of the store — the systems, standards, and habits that let a small team do exceptional work — while protecting our inventory, assets, and everyone's safety along the way. And you'll invest in people: coaching, training, and growing the team, contributing to the manuals and standards that keep Cubitts consistent as we scale.
Above all, you'll be an ambassador for what we're building — able to explain a lens as fluently as you tell the Cubitts story, and to get others as excited about it as you are.

You're aligned, first and foremost, with our values. You're a Pioneer — always looking for the simpler, better way. You're Proud — you take pride in your craft and do things properly, even when you're tired. Beyond that, you're:
- Proactive and energetic — you thrive at pace and can run with things independently
- A natural communicator who builds trust and influences positively, in person, on the phone, and in writing
- Decisive, comfortable acting quickly to make a positive difference
- A developer of people — able to delegate, empower, and hold a team accountable, with a track record of both stretching high performers and turning around under-performers
- Commercially sharp, with a feel for what moves a store
- Genuinely passionate about spectacles — their style, design, and manufacture
- Detail-oriented and well organised, with real care for how things look and feel
- Agile and adaptable as the needs of a growing business change
